Job Description

The Deputy Director, Engineering is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and lifecycle management of M1's Packet Core Network (4G/5G), Fibre Broadband Network, and IP Network. The incumbent is accountable for ensuring the availability, reliability, scalability, security, performance and to architect M1's core network infrastructure that supports consumer, enterprise, and wholesale services.

Working closely with the Director, Engineering, the role drives technology strategy, oversees major infrastructure investments, establishes engineering governance, and provides technical leadership across mission-critical network domains. The position also leads a team of senior engineering professionals while ensuring operational excellence and continuous innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle management of M1's Packet Core (4G/5G), Fibre Broadband, and IP networks, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Develop and execute network strategies and technology roadmaps that support business growth and future network evolution.
  • Drive network performance, resilience, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across core network platforms.
  • Lead large-scale network transformation and infrastructure projects, including technology evaluation, vendor management, tender processes, and capital investment recommendations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to design and deliver innovative network solutions that meet consumer and enterprise business requirements.
  • Establish engineering governance, operational standards, and risk management practices while ensuring compliance with regulatory, security, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Provide strategic technical leadership to senior engineering teams, fostering a high-performance culture and developing organisational capabilities.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with vendors, technology partners, and key stakeholders to support innovation and operational excellence.
  • Influence technology direction and investment priorities by providing expert technical guidance to senior management.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • At least

15 years of experience

in telecommunications or network engineering, with significant experience managing Packet Core, IP, and Broadband networks.

  • Proven leadership experience managing senior engineering teams and delivering large-scale network transformation projects.
  • Strong technical expertise in 4G/5G Core, IP/MPLS, Broadband, and carrier-grade network technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, vendor management, contract negotiations, and capital investment planning.
  • Strong stakeholder management, decision-making, communication, and leadership skills
