About THG
THG Ingenuity is a fully integrated digital commerce ecosystem, designed to power brands without limits. Our global end-to-end tech platform is comprised of three products: THG Commerce, THG Studios, THG Fulfilment. Each represents a single, unified solution, overcoming challenges and taking brands direct-to-consumer. Our client portfolio includes globally recognised brands such as Coca-Cola, Nestle, Elemis, Homebase, and Proctor \& Gamble.Technology is the driving force behind THG Ingenuity, and it starts with our people. We are ambitious with our goals and challenge conventional thinking. THG Ingenuity is different because we support every single person to make massive impact and drive their own work. Our people are always learning, and we work every day to ensure our technology, from our software platforms to our hosting services, to our AIcapability and beyond, is world class. This enables us to keep powering THG Ingenuity and our partners on a global scale.
About the Team
You will join one of the largest AI teams in retail and e‑commerce, operating at global scale across the full retail stack — from on‑site product discovery and personalisation, through to demand forecasting, pricing, fraud prevention, and warehouse fulfilment. We work across every modality (tabular, text, image, video) and combine classical techniques with state‑of‑the‑art deep learning, NLP, generative AI, and agentic systems to ship solutions that are sustainable, optimised, and commercially valuable.
We are an AI‑first team. That means we don’t just build AI products — we build with AI. AI design and coding tools are a core part of how our designers and engineers work, and we expect everyone on the team to use them well: to move faster, raise the quality of the work, and spend more time on the problems that genuinely require human judgement.
UX Designers in the AI \& Data team sit at the intersection of product, design, and machine learning. You will partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, ML Engineers, Data Scientists, and commercial stakeholders to shape AI‑powered experiences that go straight into production for customers and operators across our retail and e‑commerce estate.
The Role
As a UX Designer in the AI \& Data team, you will own the end‑to‑end experience of the AI‑powered web applications we ship — from early discovery and user research, through information architecture, interaction design, and visual design, to validating the work with real users and supporting engineering through implementation. You will design interfaces that make generative and agentic systems feel intuitive, trustworthy, and fast, and you will be hands‑on enough to either prototype in code or run the testing that proves your designs work.
This is a hands‑on, generalist UX role with a deliberate technical lean. You will spend most of your time in Figma — building flows, wireframes, prototypes, and a living design system — but you will also work side‑by‑side with engineers shipping a Next.js, Tailwind, and shadcn/ui front end, and you will be expected to either contribute directly to the front‑end implementation (HTML/CSS/JS, ideally React) or to run the usability research and testing that closes the loop on every release. You will use AI design and coding tools fluently as part of your everyday workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end‑to‑end UX.
Take features from discovery through user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and final visual design — aligned to product timelines and quality bars.
- Design for AI and agentic experiences.
Make generative outputs, long‑running tasks, streaming responses, human‑in‑the‑loop review, and agent state legible to users; design for failure, uncertainty, and recoverability.
- Run user research and usability testing.
Plan and run moderated and unmoderated sessions, synthesise findings, and translate insight into design decisions you can defend with evidence.
- Contribute to the front end.
Either pair closely with engineers on Next.js, React, Tailwind, and shadcn/ui implementations — reviewing PRs and tightening interaction, motion, and accessibility — or pick up component‑level front‑end tickets yourself.
- Build and maintain the design system.
Curate tokens, components, and patterns in Figma and keep them in lockstep with the implemented Tailwind/shadcn/ui library so design and code stay in sync.
- Get accessibility right.
Ship interfaces that meet WCAG 2\.2 AA as a baseline — semantic structure, keyboard support, focus management, contrast, and screen‑reader behaviour — and test them.
- Design with data.
Use product analytics, session replay, and qualitative research together to prioritise the right problems and measure whether the work landed.
- Design with AI.
Use AI design and prototyping tools (Figma AI, v0, Galileo, Uizard, Magic Patterns, or similar) and AI assistants for research synthesis as a default part of your workflow, and help the team adopt these practices responsibly.
- Partner with stakeholders.
Translate ambiguous product asks into well‑defined design work, and communicate trade‑offs and rationale in clear, non‑design language.
- Raise the craft bar.
Champion design reviews, critique, documentation, and internal knowledge‑sharing across designers, PMs, and engineers.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- BA, BSc, MA, MSc, or equivalent in Design, Human–Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline — or equivalent practical experience.
- Three or more years designing and shipping production web or SaaS products end‑to‑end, with a clear track record of owning features from discovery to release.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating product thinking, information architecture, interaction design, and visual design across complex, data‑rich web applications — not just marketing surfaces.
- Either (a) hands‑on front‑end development experience — semantic HTML, modern CSS, JavaScript, and ideally a component framework such as React (Next.js a plus) and a utility CSS framework such as Tailwind — comfortable shipping component‑level code or pairing with engineers on implementation;
or
(b) demonstrable usability testing and user research experience — planning and running moderated and unmoderated studies, recruiting participants, synthesising findings, and feeding insight back into design and product decisions. Candidates strong in both will be prioritised.
- Expert‑level Figma skills — auto layout, variables, variants, prototyping, and contributing to a shared design system used by engineering.
- Solid grasp of design‑system thinking — tokens, components, patterns, and the lifecycle of keeping a Figma library in sync with an implemented component library.
- Demonstrable experience designing for accessibility against WCAG 2\.2 AA and reasoning about keyboard, focus, contrast, and screen‑reader behaviour from the design stage.
- AI‑first mindset and hands‑on experience with AI design, prototyping, and assistant tools (Figma AI, v0, Galileo, Uizard, Magic Patterns, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) as part of your daily workflow. You should be able to describe, with concrete examples, how you use AI to explore, draft, critique, and validate design work — and how you manage its limitations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Product Managers, Engineers, ML Engineers, Data Scientists, and commercial stakeholders.
Desirable
- Experience designing for AI, generative, or agentic products — long‑running tasks, streaming outputs, tool use, multi‑step plans, evaluation, and human‑in‑the‑loop review.
- Working knowledge of a modern React stack — Next.js App Router, React Server Components, Tailwind, shadcn/ui, Radix UI primitives — sufficient to read code and ship UI tickets.
- Experience working in or alongside a multi‑tenant SaaS product, including tenant‑aware UX, role‑based access, and workspace‑level personalisation.
- Experience running quantitative research — A/B testing, surveys, funnel and behavioural analytics — with tools such as Amplitude, Mixpanel, GA4, Hotjar, FullStory, or Maze.
- Experience with motion, micro‑interactions, and prototyping in tools such as Framer, Origami, ProtoPie, or Rive.
- Exposure to retail or e‑commerce production systems: product discovery, search and ranking, recommendations, personalisation, merchandising, pricing, or fulfilment operator tools.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining a public design system, component library, or design‑engineering documentation site.
- Open‑source contributions, a public design portfolio with case studies, or published writing on design practice.
