Battery Application Development Researcher

As a Battery Application Development Researcher, you will contribute to the design and optimization of next-generation polymer binders and formulations for advanced lithium-based batteries. You will combine a good understanding of polymer and materials chemistry with experimental work and cross-functional collaboration to accelerate product innovation in the energy storage field.

You will combine your scientific curiosity and leadership with experimentation, transforming polymer chemistry insights into real advances in battery performance and sustainability

Job Overview And Responsibilities

  • Develop the next-generation binders for Li-ion battery cathodes, exploring new polymer concepts beyond traditional binder structures.
  • Design and execute structured experimental plans to identify key performance drivers and translate structure–property relationships into practical development guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with the other Battery Application lab in South Korea, Polymer Development, Analytical, Application Laboratories, and Commercial teams across the globe to align material innovation with application and market needs.
  • Provide hands-on scientific support to project teams, contributing to technical problem-solving and performance optimization.
  • Coordinate and contribute to day-to-day laboratory activities with the support of lab technicians, ensuring high data quality, proper documentation, and timely delivery of results.
  • Monitor the patent landscape and scientific literature, contribute to invention disclosures, and support patent filing and defense activities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with HSE standards, and support the development of junior colleagues within a collaborative team environment.

Requirements:

  • Education: M.D. in Physical Chemistry, Chemistry, Engineering, Material or Polymer Science, or a related field. PhD is a plus.
  • Experience: Ideally 3\+ years of experience in applied research or product development in materials science, polymers, or related fields. Experience in battery materials, dispersions, or coatings would be a plus.
  • Technical Skills:

+ Ability to analyze scientific literature and patents identifying valuable information

+ Ability to design, and interpret results of, analytical and application tests on polymers and dispersions of inorganic particles, e.g. binders,cathode slurries and electrodes.

+ Knowledge of physical chemistry of materials and preferably on interactions of polymers with inorganic surfaces \& particles.

+ Familiarity with analytical techniques applicable to the assessment of polymer properties and interactions with inorganic surfaces

  • Soft Skills:

+ Ability to influence people even without direct authority.

+ Ability to coordinate or monitor activities within the project team

+ Ability to interact directly and autonomously with multiple functions across the organization

+ Strong teamwork abilities.

+ Proficiency in English.

+ Excellent communication skills
