Location:

Charlotte, NC (Candidates must be located within commuting distance)

Work Schedule:

Hybrid – On-site meetings in Charlotte required once every two weeks

Employment Type:

6 Month Contract-to-Hire

Compensation:

$40–$50/hour W-2 during contract period

Conversion Salary:

$80,000–$100,000 annually

Overview

We are seeking a SQL Database Administrator (DBA) for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting enterprise database environments and critical business applications. This role will focus on database administration, performance tuning, maintenance, backup/recovery, and operational support across Microsoft SQL Server environments.

The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, experience supporting production environments, and the ability to collaborate with infrastructure, development, and application support teams in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be located near Charlotte, NC and able to attend on-site meetings once every two weeks. Rotational weekend on-call support may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server database environments
  • Monitor database performance and optimize queries, indexes, and stored procedures
  • Perform database backups, restores, patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance activities
  • Support high availability and disaster recovery solutions including replication, clustering, and backup strategies
  • Troubleshoot database issues related to performance, connectivity, blocking, and data integrity
  • Assist development and application teams with database deployments, migrations, and release support
  • Create and maintain SQL scripts, jobs, maintenance plans, and automation processes
  • Monitor database health and proactively identify risks or performance concerns
  • Support security administration, user access management, and compliance standards
  • Participate in rotational on-call weekend support as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 4\+ years of SQL Server Database Administration experience
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration in production environments
  • Experience with backup/recovery processes, database maintenance, and performance tuning
  • Proficiency writing and troubleshooting complex SQL queries and scripts
  • Experience with SQL Server Agent, SSIS, replication, or clustering technologies
  • Familiarity with database monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Strong understanding of database security, permissions, and best practices
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Must be located within commuting distance of Charlotte, NC and able to attend on-site meetings once every two weeks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting cloud-hosted SQL environments in Azure or AWS
  • Familiarity with PowerShell or scripting automation
  • Experience with high availability/disaster recovery solutions
  • Prior experience in enterprise or highly regulated environments
