A well established consulting firm that handles Accounting and Reporting for non-profit organizations is seeking a detail-oriented

Accountant / Accounting Manager

to lead and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for nonprofit clients. This role requires deep knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, grant compliance, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate thrives in a client-facing environment and is comfortable managing multiple engagements simultaneously.

This is an ideal opportunity for a Public Accountant who enjoys the client interaction without the typical demands of Audit and is looking for better W-L balance.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Close Management

  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes for nonprofit organizations
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial statement preparation
  • Maintain organized supporting documentation for audit readiness

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP for nonprofit organizations
  • Develop board-ready financial reporting packages
  • Support preparation of Form 990 in collaboration with tax professionals
  • Assist with audit schedules and external auditor requests

Compliance \& Grant Management

  • Monitor restricted vs. unrestricted funds
  • Track grant expenditures and ensure compliance with donor restrictions
  • Support federal and state grant reporting requirements
  • Maintain compliance with Uniform Guidance where applicable

Client Advisory

  • Serve as primary point of contact for assigned clients
  • Provide process improvement recommendations
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting
  • Support system implementations and accounting software transitions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 5\+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in nonprofit accounting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
  • Experience managing month-end close processes
  • Familiarity with accounting platforms such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar systems
  • Excellent communication and client management skills
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities
