Job Description

Under the close supervision of the Director of Finance Excellence, the Junior Accountant participates in a structured rotational development program designed to build foundational accounting knowledge, strengthen business acumen, and develop essential analytical skills. The incumbent performs entry-level accounting duties, including preparing financial reports and work papers, analyzing transactions, reconciling financial information, maintaining digital document repositories, documenting procedures, and processing invoices.

The position provides exposure to financial operations, general ledger activities, financial reporting, and finance systems.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare quarterly workpapers, exhibits, schedules, reconciliations, and related reports
  • Analyze and reconcile financial data; identify variances and propose adjustments
  • Maintain organized digital files, workpapers, and reporting materials
  • Update and document procedures to reflect workflow and control requirements
  • Review and process invoices, verify calculations, and prepare procurement packages
  • Participate in rotational assignments across Finance Functions
  • Support system testing, process improvements, and special projects
  • Build foundational skills in financial systems and analytical tools
  • Strengthen communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Ability to analyze and reconcile financial data with attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to learn financial systems, tools, and accounting processes
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities while delivering quality work
  • Interest in developing long-term expertise in financial reporting and accounting operations

Selected candidate(s) hired may be required to attend in-person Onboarding at our Vacaville office with expenses for attendance paid by State Fund.
