Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled
Python Developer
with deep expertise in
DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine)
and radiology workflows to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing the backend infrastructure that processes, stores, and streams medical imaging data.
You will work at the intersection of software engineering and clinical informatics, developing high-performance pipelines for modalities such as CT, MRI, X-ray, and Ultrasound. If you are passionate about leveraging Python to solve complex medical imaging challenges and improving patient outcomes through technology, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture \& Development:
Design and develop scalable, containerized Python microservices to handle the ingestion, transcoding, and distribution of DICOM images.
- DICOM Processing:
Implement complex DICOM operations including parsing headers, handling multi-frame objects, performing pixel data manipulation, and managing image metadata.
- Pipeline Optimization:
Build robust ETL pipelines that process high volumes of imaging studies with strict requirements for latency and uptime.
- Integration:
Interface with PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems), RIS (Radiology Information Systems), and VNA (Vendor Neutral Archives) using standard protocols (DICOMweb, WADO, STOW-RS, QIDO-RS).
- Standards Compliance:
Ensure strict adherence to healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) and security protocols (HIPAA, GDPR).
- Collaboration:
Work closely with radiologists, medical physicists, and product managers to translate clinical needs into technical solutions.
- Code Quality:
Write maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews to ensure high engineering standards.
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
5\+ years of professional experience in software development, with at least
2\+ years specifically working with DICOM and radiology data
.
- Technical Stack:
Expert proficiency in
Python
(3\.8\+). Familiarity with web frameworks like FastAPI or Flask is highly preferred.
- DICOM Expertise:
Deep understanding of the DICOM standard, including IOD modules, VR types, Transfer Syntaxes (Little Endian, JPEG Lossless, JPEG 2000, etc.), and UIDs.
- Libraries:
Hands-on experience with medical imaging libraries such as
pydicom
,
DICOMToolkit (DCMTK)
,
GDCM
, or
ITK
.
- Medical Workflows:
Strong understanding of radiology workflow schemas (e.g., Worklist, Modality Performed Procedure Step - MPPS).
