Role Description

The Data Analyst (applicants with varying levels of experience are encouraged to apply, position level and wage will be evaluated and adjusted accordingly) role is a full-time hybrid position based in St. Paul, MN, with flexibility for some work from home. This role is responsible for collecting, transforming, and analyzing complex data sets into actionable insights to maintain and enhance reliability and security of the bulk power system. This position partners closely with various departments to identify trends, optimize processes, and support decision-making with clear, concise reports, charts, and graphs. The Data Analyst stays current with emerging trends and best practices in data analytics to continuously improve tools, technologies, and methodologies.

Essential Duties \& Responsibilities:

  • Collect, integrate, transform, and analyze large datasets from multiple internal and external sources (databases, APIs, and enterprise systems) to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support organizational decision-making.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs to provide insights that support organizational objectives and goals.
  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using tools such as Power BI, SAP BusinessObjects/Web Intelligence, Excel, and other analytics platforms to support operational monitoring and strategic decision-making.
  • Enhance and optimize business processes by developing automated reporting, data pipelines, and workflow solutions that improve efficiency and reduce manual processes.
  • Design, develop, and maintain internal applications and analytical tools that support workflow tracking, data management, and operational reporting.
  • Stay current with the latest trends and best practices in data analysis and visualization and recommend tools, technologies, and methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Track and report Key Performance Indicators supporting business operations and workflow processes.
  • Provide analytical support and subject matter expertise across departments and external industry collaboration groups to support data-driven decision making and enterprise initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field (math, statistics, computer science, information systems, or related field) or equivalent application tools work experience required
  • Minimum of five years’ progressive experience in data visualization and data analytics utilizing database tools such as SAP BusinessObjects, Web Intelligence, and Power BI required
  • Advanced SharePoint and Excel experience and skills required
  • Experience interpreting complex data, creating metrics, manipulating data, and providing support on forecasting based on key performance indicators for relevant departments required
  • Good communication skills and ability to work closely with others and interpret business requirements to determine appropriate solutions required
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills required
  • Strong organizational and technical writing skills required
  • Experience with data programming in Python, R, or SQL preferred
  • Previous experience in the electric utility industry or strong operational understanding of electric utilities preferred
  • Standard office environment requires mobility and sedentary work
  • Travel Requirement: Less than 10%

Individual contributor role, no supervisory responsibilities

Targeted Annual Salary \= $77,400 - $119,600*

*Based on MRO’s Pay Philosophy wage range - Developing Employee – Proficient Employee (75% - midrange).
