Job Description
Information Security Engineer - Identity \& Security Operations (100% remote)
Optomi, in partnership with a company in the financial services space, is looking to add an Information Security Engineer over Identity \& Security Operations. The candidate hired for this role will start with an Okta migration and eventually move into other projects, partnering with another security architect to help mature a security program.
This role is ideal for someone who combines strong identity engineering experience, especially around IAM platform implementation and migration, with the flexibility to support broader security operations and engineering initiatives.
The immediate priority for this hire is to help lead and support the transition of identity-related operational work to a service-oriented support model. This includes hands-on engineering, troubleshooting, process improvement, and knowledge transfer to internal support teams. Over time, this person will have the opportunity to contribute across other security domains, including incident response, control improvement, and security engineering projects.
This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys dynamic environments, can work independently, communicates well with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and wants to make a visible impact inside a growing organization.
What You’ll Do
- Support the engineering, configuration, enhancement, and transition of enterprise identity and access management capabilities
- Partner closely with senior security engineering leadership to help drive a responsible migration of identity-related support processes
- Translate technical identity workflows into repeatable support processes for downstream operational teams
- Train and enable internal support teams to successfully take on day-to-day identity-related operational responsibilities
- Assist with user lifecycle and access-related processes in a growing, acquisition-driven environment
- Contribute to security operations efforts as needed, including incident investigation support, documentation, and root cause analysis
- Help evaluate and improve security controls across infrastructure, identity, endpoint, and broader enterprise environments
- Work cross-functionally with technology, infrastructure, and support teams to improve operational maturity and reduce single points of failure
- Document processes, decisions, and technical recommendations clearly for both operational and leadership audiences
What We’re Looking For
- 3–7 years of experience in information security, identity engineering, security engineering, systems engineering, or a closely related area
- Hands-on experience with Okta engineering, implementation, migration, integration, or administration at an enterprise level
- Experience supporting or leading IAM-related transitions, handoffs, or operational enablement across teams
- Strong understanding of user lifecycle management, authentication, access provisioning, and identity-related workflows
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and patiently to teams with varying levels of technical depth
- Experience working in hybrid environments that include both cloud and on-prem infrastructure
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to operate independently in fast-changing environments
- Experience supporting or participating in incident response, especially deeper investigations, root cause analysis, and impact assessment
- Strong written documentation and verbal communication skills
- Self-starter mentality with a high level of ownership, initiative, and follow-through
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with identity architecture or solution design, even if you have not held a formal architect title
- Experience partnering with service desk, infrastructure, or operations teams to transition support responsibilities
- Exposure to endpoint management, phishing-resistant authentication, or device-based access controls
- Experience working in highly regulated or complex enterprise environments
- Familiarity with vulnerability management, security operations, or broader defensive security functions
- Scripting or automation experience using tools such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash
- Exposure to evaluating emerging technologies and related security controls
What Success Looks Like
In the first few months, this person will:
- ramp quickly with the existing security engineering team
- take meaningful ownership of identity-related engineering and support transition work
- help reduce dependency on key internal SMEs
- improve confidence and capability within internal support teams
- create a smoother path for the security team to focus on higher-value engineering and strategic initiatives
This role is well suited for someone who has worked in:
- a lean security team
- a fast-growing company
- an acquisition-heavy environment
- a role where they had to balance engineering depth with operational flexibility
