Position Overview
We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to install, commission, maintain and troubleshoot advanced medical and biomanufacturing equipment at customer sites. The ideal candidate combines hands-on field service experience with domain knowledge in medical device and biologics manufacturingparticularly interferometry, biosensors, monoclonal antibody and gene-therapy related systemsand is comfortable working with both mechanical/electrical systems and software platforms (including Infor and AI-enabled diagnostics). This role supports uptime, validation, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement for next-generation technologies in clinical and manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission and validate medical and biomanufacturing equipment at customer sites, ensuring systems meet performance and regulatory requirements.
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibration and repairs on complex instruments including interferometry systems, biosensors, and automation used in monoclonal antibody and gene therapy workflows.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical and software issues on site and remotely; leverage AI diagnostics and instrumentation knowledge to reduce mean time to repair.
- Support equipment integration with customer systems and enterprise software (e.g., Infor); assist with data connectivity and troubleshooting of software/firmware issues.
- Document service activities, create detailed service reports, maintain spare parts inventory and update service records in the companys systems.
- Collaborate with R\&D, quality and manufacturing teams to provide feedback on field issues, assist in design-for-service improvements and participate in product lifecycle updates.
- Deliver customer training and technical transfers for operators, maintenance teams and engineers; provide clear, professional communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support regulatory compliance activities, including installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), preventive maintenance protocols and responses to customer audits.
- Travel regularly to customer sites, respond to service calls with urgency, and work flexible hours for critical escalations and installations.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Life Sciences or equivalent technical field; advanced degree or certifications a plus.
- 3\+ years of field service or commissioning experience supporting medical device, biologic manufacturing or laboratory instrumentation; experience in medical manufacturing or medical device manufacturing preferred.
- Hands-on experience with interferometry, biosensor technology, monoclonal antibody or biomolecular instrumentation, and familiarity with gene therapy/biologics workflows.
- Proven troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical and software domains; experience using AI-enabled diagnostic tools and next-generation technology platforms.
- Working knowledge of enterprise software integrations (Infor or similar ERP), instrument firmware, data communications and networking basics.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and documentation practices (FDA, ISO 13485, cGMP) and experience performing IQ/OQ/PQ or similar validation activities.
- Excellent customer-facing skills with the ability to train, mentor and clearly document technical issues and resolutions.
- Ability to travel frequently, work independently in the field, and possess a valid drivers license; willingness to work flexible hours for on-call support. (some international and national travel)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
