POSITION OVERVIEW – Logistics Customs/Trade Specialist - The Logistics Customs, Trade \& Analytics Specialist is responsible for supporting customs and international trade compliance activities while providing logistics data analysis, reporting, and operational coordination across North America. This role supports both the Inquiry to Order (ITO) and Order to Remittance (OTR) organizations by providing customs strategy, import/export guidance, duty and tariff analysis, logistics reporting, performance measurement, and data-driven insights. The specialist will help ensure the compliant, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods while improving the visibility, quality, and consistency of logistics data. The specialist will partner with Project Management, Procurement, Logistics, Service, Manufacturing, Finance, Trade Compliance, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other internal and external stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Inquiry to Order (ITO) organization by developing project-specific customs strategies, supporting Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification reviews, forecasting duties and tariffs, evaluating trade compliance risks, and developing customs-related logistics estimates during tendering.
  • Support the Order to Remittance (OTR) organization by coordinating day-to-day import and export activities, customs documentation, customs clearance, temporary import programs, export requirements, and the resolution of customs-related issues.
  • Develop, implement, and administer the ATA Carnet Program for client’s Service trucks, tooling, and other temporary international movements.
  • Maintain HTS classification records, country-of-origin information, customs valuation data, and import/export documentation requirements.
  • Assess tariff exposure, including Section 232, Section 301, Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Duties (AD/CVD), sanctions, and other evolving trade regulations, and support the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Forecast customs duties, tariffs, taxes, and other trade-related costs to improve bid accuracy, project budgets, and Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecasting.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce customs costs through Free Trade Agreements, including USMCA, duty drawback, tariff engineering, temporary import programs, and other available duty-optimization programs.
  • Support compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and other applicable customs and import/export requirements.
  • Develop and maintain customs procedures, work instructions, process maps, training materials, and operational best practices.
  • Support customs audits, compliance reviews, corrective actions, post-entry activities, and record-retention requirements.
  • Provide customs and international trade guidance and training to Logistics, Procurement, Project Management, Service, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Collect, validate, consolidate, and analyze logistics data from project teams, transportation providers, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal systems.
  • Develop and maintain logistics trackers for ITO, OTR, Service, customs, shipment execution, carrier performance, and project-related activities.
  • Create dashboards, reports, and scorecards to provide visibility into shipment status, customs clearance, duty spend, transportation cost, carrier performance, cycle time, on-time delivery, and operational risks.
  • Establish and monitor logistics and customs KPIs, including customs-clearance cycle time, entry accuracy, broker performance, duty and tariff spend, on-time delivery, transportation cost, and shipment exceptions.
  • Perform data-quality reviews to identify missing, incomplete, inconsistent, or inaccurate shipment and customs information.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards, Excel-based analytical models, and standardized reporting templates.
  • Support data requests, process-improvement initiatives, capacity planning, and logistics productivity or cost-reduction projects.
  • Track open actions, shipment exceptions, customs issues, and corrective actions through completion.
  • Maintain accurate files and records in approved systems and shared document repositories.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, Customs Administration, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in customs compliance, international trade, import/export operations, logistics analytics, global logistics, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of CBP, CBSA, USMCA, Incoterms 2020, customs valuation, tariff classification, country-of-origin requirements, and import/export regulations.
  • Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, transportation providers, and cross-functional project teams.
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, validating, analyzing, and reporting logistics or supply-chain data.
  • Experience creating and maintaining operational trackers, KPIs, dashboards, and management reports.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, data validation, and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize time-sensitive activities, and follow issues through resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Customs Specialist, Certified Export Specialist, or an equivalent customs or trade certification.
  • Experience supporting industrial equipment, power generation, EPC, heavy-lift, oversized cargo, or project logistics.
  • Experience with SAP, Transportation Management Systems, Power BI, Smartsheet, and SharePoint or Box.
  • Experience with logistics cost analysis, freight budgeting, EAC forecasting, and carrier performance reporting.
  • Experience supporting U.S.–Canada and other international cross-border movements.
  • Knowledge of project logistics, freight forwarding, customs brokerage, transportation procurement, and shipment-execution processes.
