Job Description

I’m working with a leading global macro hedge fund that is looking to hire a Junior Front Office Developer to join its New York office.

This is a front-office aligned role working directly with Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Risk teams, focused on developing, enhancing, and supporting technology used for trading and portfolio management of derivative instruments across rates, FX, and other macro asset classes. The role offers strong exposure to the investment process and is ideal for someone who enjoys solving real trading and portfolio problems through technology.

The developer will be involved in building tactical tools for market analysis, portfolio management, and operational optimisation, as well as supporting and improving the existing front-office codebase. This role requires someone who is technically strong, proactive, and comfortable working directly with investment professionals in a fast-paced trading environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and support front-office applications used for trading and portfolio management.
  • Work directly with Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Risk teams to build tools for market analysis, portfolio management, and operational optimisation.
  • Assist with valuation and risk reconciliation and investigate discrepancies.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues across a large Python codebase.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-structured code with a focus on performance and reliability.
  • Participate in global team meetings and contribute to ongoing technology and process improvements.
  • Take ownership of tasks and work independently on development and support initiatives.

Requirements

  • Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with quantitative libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, Polars, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex systems.
  • Passion for writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with front-office stakeholders.
  • Interest in financial markets, trading, and macro strategies is highly desirable

My client anticipates to pay a strong performer upwards of $175k year 1 total compensation package. As well as a market-leading compensation package, they offer exceptional benefits including a top-tier healthcare package, fully subsidised qualifications plus breakfast and lunch paid for each day.
