Description of position:
West Physics has an immediate opening for a Dosimetry Analyst with proven experience in reviewing, analyzing, and investigating occupational radiation exposure data to ensure compliance with federal regulations, site procedures, and radiation protection program requirements. This position supports radiological safety programs through dose assessment, trend analysis, exposure investigations, and maintenance of personnel dosimetry records. The analyst works closely with Health Physics, Radiation Protection, operations, and regulatory personnel to support ALARA principles and accurate dose monitoring. This position requires a solid educational background in health physics, a strong interest and aptitude for learning, and a can-do attitude with an excellent work ethic. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership, communication, and management skills. This position will best suit someone with excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a project team, and strong technical proficiency. The ability to exercise high responsibility and autonomy (once trained) is integral to this position. Primary Responsibilities:
Dosimetry Program Management
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual personnel dosimetry reports
- Identify exposures exceeding ALARA Level I and ALARA Level II thresholds
- Perform preliminary exposure investigations and trend analysis
- Prepare reports and summaries for the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) review and approval
- Maintain accurate occupational dose records in accordance with NRC, Agreement State, OSHA, and organizational requirements
- Track missing dosimeters, late exchanges, and anomalous readings
- Coordinate with dosimetry vendors regarding badge assignments, exchanges, reports, and investigations
ALARA \& Compliance Support
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the ALARA program
- Monitor exposure trends across departments and personnel groups
- Assist with radiation safety audits and compliance inspections
- Help maintain required documentation for regulatory review
- Support the preparation of annual radiation exposure summaries
Administrative \& Technical Support
- Maintain personnel monitoring databases and spreadsheets
- Generate exposure metrics and management reports
- Assist with radiation safety committee reporting
- Support onboarding/offboarding dosimetry processing
- Assist with radiation safety training records and documentation
- Other related duties as needed.
Prerequisites:
- Bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Health Physics or a physics-related discipline, preferred. (Medical Physics, Radiation Sciences, Radiologic Sciences, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, etc.)
- An associate’s (A.S.) degree with significant dosimetry/radiation safety experience is also acceptable.
- 1–3 years of experience in at least one of the following disciplines: Radiation safety, Health Physics, Personnel Dosimetry, Medical Physics support, Nuclear medicine, industrial radiography, research, or healthcare radiation protection.
- Knowledge of radiation protection principles and personnel monitoring techniques
- Familiarity with federal regulations such as 10 CFR Part 20, 10 CFR Part 35, DOE Orders, NRC Regulations, Agreement State Regulations, or equivalent standards.
- Familiarity with dose management software such as Landauer, Mirion, etc.
- Experience supporting dosimetry services for hospitals, imaging centers, academic/university institutions, industrial radiation programs, research institutions, etc.
- Familiarity and proficiency with basic health physics activities (e.g., survey instrument used, survey technique, leak testing, dosimetry review, etc.) and a willingness and aptitude to master more advanced health physics skills and activities.
- The ability to understand and apply regulations from various State and Federal entities to different client situations and write effective policy and procedures, Radiation Safety Manuals, and user-friendly forms.
- Solid foundation in radiation physics, radiation biology, electronics, and other areas relevant to equipment quality assurance testing. Preferred not required
- Effective written and oral communication skills, including professional, courteous, and convincing or persuasive in discussions with clients, regulators, and colleagues.
- Strong technical proficiency, the ability to manage multiple complex assignments concurrently and to completion, strong attention to detail, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- A working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and excellent general computer skills. Familiarity with Apple computers (i.e., macOS) and applications is a plus.
- The candidate must be willing and open to being trained on new opportunities and activities to enhance their technical skill set.
