Job Title: PLC Engineer
- Location:** Freeport, Texas

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated PLC Engineer to join our team at our PVC manufacturing and compounding facility in Freeport, Texas. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in programmable logic controllers (PLCs), automation systems, and industrial processes. The PLC Engineer will provide technical expertise ensuring the reliable and optimal operations of control systems (PLC, DCS, SIS, etc.).
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement and maintain PLC and HMI programs for control systems.
- Program and configure PLCs (e.g. Allen-Bradley) and HMIs (e.g. Allen-Bradley) to meet system requirements.
- Monitor lifecycle status and develop diagnostic concepts and periodic health checks for installed base control systems.
- Develop and maintain long-term control system migration plans in collaboration with Technical, Production and Maintenance departments.
- Perform advanced control and graphic configuration.
- Understand plant-specific requirements and provide technical expertise for systems and communication protocols such as DH\+, DH-485, RS-232, AB DF1, Fieldbus, OPC, and wireless communications.
- Ensure compatibility and functionality with communication protocols (e.g. RSLinx, OPC UA, DH-485, DH\+, Ethernet, RS-232).
- Ensure preventive maintenance is completed on all control systems.
- Implement mechanical integrity programs including inspection / testing and predictive maintenance.
- Provide technical support to internal teams for programming related troubleshooting.
- Support capital projects requiring control system interfaces.
- Lead and/or coordinate root cause failure analysis on significant failures and implement corrective / preventive actions.
- Maintain master plans for assigned control systems (PLC).
- Maintain automation roadmap (spare parts, service agreements, obsolescence).
- Maintain logic documentation for production and material handling areas, including instrumentation drawings.
- Maintain accurate records of program changes and support logs.
- Develop and maintain a database of advanced process control installations and ensure functionality
- Create and update system documentation, including IOMs, system overlays, and program backups.
- Organize technology and best practice sharing between vendors, production, and support functions; maintain and communicate best practice documents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a PLC engineering role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting (AB Rockwell automation / RSLogix 5, 500, 5000, Studio 5000, RSLinx).
- Strong understanding of control panel wiring diagrams, I/O lists, and system logic.
- Sensor Technologies.
- Microsoft Applications.
- Industrial Maintenance Processes.
- Understanding of industrial control systems, instrumentation, and manufacturing processes, particularly in the PVC industry.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex control systems.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Experience with safety and environmental regulations related to industrial operations.
