The Opportunity
We are seeking a Bioinformatician skilled in Artificial Intelligence to join the Bioinformatics Core of the Discovery Research Platform for Hidden Cell Biology (DRP-HCB) at the University of Edinburgh. This post is available for an initial period of three years, with the possibility of extension.
The Discovery Research Platform for Hidden Cell Biology is a seven-year, £9m Wellcome-funded initiative launched in December 2023\. The platform provides a transformative, interdisciplinary research environment to uncover previously hidden aspects of cell biology by integrating advanced experimental, computational, and analytical approaches.
The Bioinformatics Core plays a central role within the platform, providing expert consultation, data analysis, training, and infrastructure to support a wide and diverse user base across the School of Biological Sciences. The core manages large-scale biological datasets and delivers reproducible, cutting-edge analytical solutions spanning genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, imaging, and multi-omics integration.
This role will provide specialist expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), supporting researchers to apply advanced data-driven approaches to complex biological questions. The post holder will work closely with experimental scientists, other bioinformaticians, and platform staff to develop and deploy robust analytical pipelines, contribute intellectually to research projects, and deliver high-quality training and workshops focused on AI in biology.
The position is ideally suited to a PhD-qualified computational biologist or bioinformatician with a strong interest in applying AI and machine learning methods to biological data, who enjoys collaborative, service-oriented research and enabling others to succeed. More details about the platform can be found here:
