Primary Function
The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and continually improving quality processes to ensure products, materials, and manufacturing processes meet defined requirements. This role establishes and maintains quality metrics, leads corrective actions and root cause analysis, supports internal and third-party audits, and partners with cross-functional teams to embed quality into new product introductions, process changes, and ongoing operations.
Essential Functions
- Develop and maintain metrics and measures related to Quality processes and Cost of Quality
- Develop and maintain quality control plans, inspection criteria, and test protocols
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAR) for nonconformances, audit findings, supplier issues, and RGA/customer complaints
- Support internal audits and third-party audits (e.g., ISO 9001, UL, SEI) and maintain audit readiness
- Collaborate with process owners through the CIP process to ensure quality is built into new product introductions and process changes
- Maintain and improve documentation systems and quality records
- Train associates on Quality Assurance and Quality Control fundamentals and activities
- Lead Verification \& Validation activities for new products and product changes, including materials, options, garments, packaging, system solutions, and equipment
- Reconcile and document risk related to quality events and design activities
- Up to 20% travel to all sites
- Facilitate Kaizen events to support continuous improvement initiatives and cross-functional problem-solving efforts to reduce waste, improve flow, or optimize manufacturing/quality processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Competencies (ISO 9001)
- Working knowledge of quality management systems and controlled documentation (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Ability to develop and track quality metrics, including Cost of Quality
- Ability to develop quality control plans, inspection criteria, and test/validation protocols
- Strong problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action methods
- Ability to support and participate in internal and third-party audits; maintain audit readiness
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to train others on QA/QC fundamentals
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to embed quality into new product introductions and process changes (CIP mindset)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- High attention to detail with strong documentation accuracy and recordkeeping integrity
- Working knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma methodologies; Green Belt certification preferred.
Competency Training Addendum
Required competencies for this role are obtained and maintained through structured onboarding, Quality Management System (QMS) training, applicable product/process training, and ongoing development aligned to Quality Engineering responsibilities. Competency verification and related records are maintained in accordance with established quality and documentation practices.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Combination of office and manufacturing floor environment with regular presence in production areas
- Ability to move throughout facilities to observe processes, perform audits, and support investigations
- Visual acuity sufficient to perform inspections, review documentation, and evaluate quality conditions
- Ability to communicate effectively and perceive auditory cues in a manufacturing environment
- Up to 20% travel to all sites; exposure to typical manufacturing noise and conditions when on the floor
