Research Scientist - Personal Care
We are seeking a Research Scientist to join our Personal Care Technical team, based at our Ellesmere Port site. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative new ingredients and formulations through hands‑on laboratory work, data‑driven research and close collaboration with colleagues across our global business.
Working within a supportive and experienced team, you will play a key role in delivering technical programmes, supporting customer projects and generating high‑quality scientific insights that help shape our product portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake laboratory experiments to support the development of new and existing Personal Care technologies, ensuring accurate data generation, analysis and interpretation
- Design or adapt test methods to meet project needs and deliver reliable, meaningful results
- Formulate innovative example products that demonstrate the performance of Innospec ingredients and reflect consumer trends and regulatory requirements
- Review scientific literature and patent information to support project direction and identify new opportunities
- Prepare clear technical reports, presentations and monthly progress updates for the Technical Manager and wider stakeholders
- Support manufacturing projects through performance and stability testing
- Maintain accurate documentation, including risk assessments and COSHH records, in line with Innospec safety procedures
- Build awareness of product developments, emerging technologies and relevant industry trends
- Contribute to project planning and effectively communicate work programmes to ensure timely delivery of milestones
- Provide technical support and training to colleagues across Technical, Sales and Marketing (full product training provided)
What We’re Looking For
- A degree (preferably MSc or PhD) in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cosmetic Science or a related discipline
- Experience working in a research or formulation environment, ideally within the Personal Care industry
- Strong practical laboratory skills and confidence generating, analysing and presenting technical data
- Good understanding of safe laboratory practice, including COSHH
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with strong attention to detail
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software and research tools
- Demonstrated creativity, problem‑solving ability and an interest in new technologies and product innovation
- Ability to manage your own workload, meet project deadlines and contribute effectively to interdisciplinary teamwork
