This role sits at the intersection of advanced machine learning, product innovation, and large-scale conversational systems, driving the next generation of AI-powered customer engagement. You will lead the design and development of foundational ML platform capabilities that enable developers to build context-aware, intelligent communication experiences. Acting as a “player-coach,” you will combine hands-on technical contribution with strategic leadership, guiding a high-performing engineering team in a fast-paced, experimentation-driven environment. The position plays a critical role in transforming ambiguous business needs into scalable ML solutions with measurable impact. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders across product, engineering, and business teams to define priorities and shape the roadmap. This is a highly visible role where your work directly influences platform direction and innovation at scale.
Accountabilities
In this role, you will lead the end-to-end development of machine learning platform capabilities, ensuring alignment between business goals, product vision, and technical execution. You will define and execute ML roadmaps, guide experimentation, and drive the delivery of scalable AI solutions.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into clear, prioritized machine learning product and platform roadmaps.
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of production-grade ML systems, including LLM-based and conversational AI solutions.
- Act as a hands-on technical leader (“player-coach”), contributing to architecture, experimentation, and model development.
- Build and optimize ML engineering infrastructure, enabling rapid iteration, experimentation, and deployment at scale.
- Define KPIs and success metrics to evaluate ML model performance and business impact.
- Manage project delivery, including timelines, dependencies, risks, and cross-functional alignment.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing ML engineers while fostering a culture of innovation and ownership.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment and execution of strategic goals.
Requirements
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in applied machine learning, strong leadership experience, and a proven track record of building and scaling production ML systems. You combine technical depth with strategic thinking and strong communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 10\+ years of experience in Applied Machine Learning or AI, including 3\+ years in a leadership role managing ML engineers or data scientists.
- Proven experience building and scaling large-scale ML platforms or AI-driven products.
- Deep expertise in production ML systems, including LLM orchestration, embeddings, vector databases, and conversational AI systems.
- Strong experience with MLOps/LLMOps practices, including evaluation frameworks for non-deterministic AI systems.
- Solid background in cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and large-scale data systems.
- Demonstrated ability to define technical strategy and influence product direction in cross-functional environments.
- Excellent communication, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in hiring and scaling technical teams in fast-growing environments.
