Job Description
Hey there, we're Trendspek.
Critical infrastructure runs the world. The ports that move cargo. The refineries that power cities. The bridges that connect communities. For decades, the engineers keeping all of it safe have worked off ropes, clipboards, and reports buried in filing cabinets.
That's the problem we solved.
Trendspek creates digital twins of the world's most critical infrastructure assets. Engineers log in from anywhere and inspect, measure, mark up, and plan in full 3D - on structures you'd normally need a harness and hard hat to get near. Our customers are household names in energy, ports, and infrastructure. The assets on our platform are ones you've driven past, flown over, or read about on the news.
We've built something genuinely new. And we're just getting started.
V3 shipped. Strong funding in. The roadmap ahead is full of hard problems we haven't solved yet - new products, bigger markets, deeper platform. The team building it is solid. What's missing is the Engineering Manager to lead them.
That's why we're here.
What you'll own
- Delivery.
Partner closely with Product and the wider engineering team on roadmap planning, sequencing, and shipping work customers actually feel.
- Growth of the people on your team.
Regular feedback, coaching, and development opportunities tailored to each engineer.
- The technical bar.
Embed strong engineering practices and principles that match the seriousness of the assets our customers run on Trendspek.
- Unblocking the team.
Identify and remove blockers, whether technical, process-related, or interpersonal, so the team keeps moving forward.
- Hiring and onboarding.
Help bring great engineers in, and get them ramping fast once they're here.
Tech you'll work with includes:
PHP, Laravel, MySQL, AWS, Azure, GCP and Northflank, Docker, PostHog, OpenTelemetry with Axiom for observability, Vue 3 with Vite and Pinia, Cesium.js, Three.js, Pixi.js, RxDB.
AI-augmented development is a normal part of how our team works. Whether Claude Code, Cursor, or whatever the tooling looks like next month, we expect leadership in continuous improvement and responsible adoption of technology and tools that facilitate the development of amazing engineering software.
What we're looking for
- Experienced Engineering Manager with experience managing teams of 4-10\+ people - you know what good looks like at this size.
- You've built process from scratch and know how to right-size for our stage of growth. Career frameworks, engineering principles, ways of working - defined, documented, and actually used.
- You're not just AI-curious - you've actively embedded AI tooling into engineering workflows. Claude Code, Cursor, agentic development pipelines. You've led a team through adoption, not just experimented yourself.
- You don't code daily but you're close enough to the code to be credible - you can push back on architecture and know what modern development feels like.
- Able to inspire, empower and motivate people to take risks, to challenge assumptions, to create a safe place for engineers to contribute ideas and develop their talents.
Nice to have (but not essential)
- Experience with engineering software and concepts, including spatial data, GeoJSON, GIS, or large-scale time-series datasets.
Why join us?
🌍
Do work that matters.
Ports, refineries, bridges, energy facilities. Engineers used to risk their lives inspecting these assets. You'll lead the team that changed that.
🚀
A brilliant team worth leading.
3 engineers in Sydney and 4 engineers in the Phillipines. You're walking into potential (with more team growth ahead!).
🤖
AI-first, for real.
Claude Code and Cursor are standard tools here, not aspirations. You'll lead from the front on what high-velocity AI-augmented engineering actually looks like in practice.
📈
Meaningful equity in what you build.
Attractive ESOP offered because we want the people shaping our company to share in its success.
🏗️
Define the engineering org from scratch.
No playbook to inherit. The culture, career frameworks, and ways of working you build here will shape Trendspek's engineering team for years to come. This is a rare, high autonomy opportunity.
🌱
Your growth is our growth.
Access a competitive professional L\&D budget refreshed annually.
