JOB SUMMARY:

The James C. Kennedy Waterfowl and Wetlands Conservation Center is seeking an individual with experience in GIS or web mapping to support the development of an interactive geo-visualization platform and map-based decision-support tool by building a user-friendly application that integrates ecological, climate, and landscape data to support waterfowl and land management decisions. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

30% - Essential - Develop and Implement the Web-Based GIS Application: Assist in designing and building an interactive mapping platform with key features such as navigation tools, layer controls, search functionality, pop-ups, and scale-aware symbology. This also includes integrating simple charts or data summaries that respond to user interaction and ensuring the application is intuitive and accessible.

25% - Essential - Prepare and Manage Geospatial Data: Clean, format, and organize raster and vector datasets for integration into the platform. This includes maintaining data quality, managing projections, and ensuring datasets are well-documented with clear metadata for consistent use.

20% - Essential - Support Backend Setup, Testing, and Maintenance: Assist with backend configuration (e.g., databases, GIS servers) and support system integration under guidance from the project team. This includes testing the application for usability and performance, recommending improvements, developing user documentation, and helping maintain and update the platform over time.

15% - Essential - Translate Project Needs into Functional Requirements: Work with faculty, staff, and partners to identify project goals and convert them into clear, actionable requirements. This includes outlining core features, contributing to basic documentation and wireframes, and ensuring the final product aligns with user needs and decision-support objectives.

10% - Essential - Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as needed to support project goals, team operations, and successful completion of deliverables, including the conveyance of tool uses and applications to partners, faculty, staff, and students.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - High School or Equivalent - Experience in computer system development and modification. A bachelor's degree in a related area may be substituted for the required work experience.

Experience - Completion of at least one project involving interactive web mapping or geospatial analysis, working knowledge of a GIS or web-mapping platform (e.g., Esri or open-source tools), basic geospatial data handling (shapefiles/GeoJSON, projection

Compensation Information

Anticipated Hourly Rate: $23\.23

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
