Job Description

THE ROLE:

The Director of Architecture is responsible for the strategic and leadership of the division's residential design. This position is also responsible for to oversee and manage the plan portfolio. Working closely with the feasibility, land and construction teams to provision new plans, as well as work with engineers and architects to address issues and redlines through to completion and jurisdictional approved plans.

Day In The Life

  • Collaborates with Division leadership and corporate office in the development of all new product offerings.
  • Manages consultants including architects, engineers, and engineered floor system designers and support personnel.
  • Analyzes and understands competitor’s product positions within the marketplace on an ongoing basis to continually ensure a greater competitive market advantage.
  • Analyzes product design advantages and disadvantages with the management team to identify areas for product improvement.
  • Manages project schedule, prototype walks, redline and revision, and related processes.
  • Ensures understanding and compliance with land acquisition policies, internal control procedures \& practices.
  • Manages all construction document creation and distribution, including the provision of consultants and vendors with all relevant scopes of work, product reequipments, and any other information pertinent to new product design.
  • Coordinates initial check set redlines and reviews with sales, purchasing, construction, and other key team members.
  • Manages plan revision process through coordination of schedule and documentation of completion with all affected consultants and vendors through estimating, including the creation of detailed redline sets, communication of changes to consultants and vendors, and release of final documents per the internal plan change process including a detail distributed to affected parties.
  • Engages with the division team to conduct value engineering processes by reviewing and redlining construction documents to align with specification standards in each home.
  • Implements final redlines into construction documents and releases coordinating with Purchasing, Construction, Sales, Marketing, and other key team members.
  • Follows revisions through to the final release of construction documents per plan change process.
  • Responsible for all design review meetings and submittals to internal partners and once approved, municipalities.
  • Provides drawing clarification and support to sales and construction team members as required during the sales and construction phases.
  • Coordinates issues and changes as appropriate and involves necessary team members to ensure that all information is conveyed properly and re-addressed, if necessary, by all appropriate departments and management team members.
  • Visits the construction site as necessary to provide support and guidance to operations and support areas.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field
  • 7-10 years’ experience in residential architecture development or related field
  • Experience with LA City zoning and development standards.
  • Studying to be a licensed architect, is licensed, or has an architecture degree.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus
  • Direct experience with single family home design either for an architect firm, builder, or developer.

  • Has expertise in architectural standards, process, plan development, working with architects and local jurisdictions and plan review agencies.
  • Able to develop plans to meet market and competitive landscape in partnership with outside architecture.
  • Assess and evaluates plans to determine viability and updating needs on regular cadence.
  • Has knowledge of jurisdictional requirements to ensure all plans meet regulations and allow for seamless permitting.
