SUMMARY:
Our client, a leader in the Facilities Management Industry is seeking a highly experienced, qualified, and results-driven Engineering Technician – HVAC to join their Maintenance Engineering Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and executing all Maintenance Engineering functions and deliverables related to HVAC systems, ensuring optimal operational performance, compliance with industry standards, and efficient maintenance practices across the organisation.

Minimum Requirements
- B-Tech Degree, S4, or N6 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineering.
- A qualification in Electrical Engineering will be advantageous.
- Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Electrical Trade Test certification will serve as an added advantage.
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- Valid Code B Driver’s License, with willingness and ability to travel frequently as required.
- A minimum of 10–15 years’ proven experience in the design, installation, maintenance, and management of HVAC systems.
Technical Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate sound technical knowledge and practical expertise in the following areas:
- Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and associated components.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply schematics, technical drawings, and technical manuals.
- Experience in incident investigation, fault finding, and failure analysis.
- Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.
- Functional and discipline-specific training in Mechanical Engineering, Air-Conditioning, and Ventilation Systems.
- Root-cause analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
- Sound understanding and application of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Knowledge of applicable SANS codes, standards, and engineering best practices.
- Experience in conducting HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment).
- Preparation and implementation of Method Statements.
- SLA compliance monitoring and management.
- Budget planning, control, and cost management.
- Knowledge of building regulations and compliance requirements.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency in CMMS systems, particularly SAP.
- Ability to perform heat load calculations and HVAC system assessments.
- Valid First Aid certification will be advantageous.
