In this role, you will work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to define business needs, shape requirements, and support delivery across UK Central Government and public sector initiatives. You will play a key role in leading the requirements lifecycle, ensuring clarity, alignment, and traceability from discovery through delivery. This position is ideal for a Business Analyst with strong analytical capability, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and proven experience within government environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end requirements gathering, including functional requirements,
non-functional requirements (NFRs)
, and acceptance criteria
- Conduct
as-is and to-be business process mapping
, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
- Manage and prioritise the
Agile product backlog
, collaborating with Product Owners and delivery teams
- Work with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear, concise user stories
- Facilitate workshops, interviews, and discovery sessions with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Use
JIRA
(or similar tools) to manage requirements, track progress, and support Agile ceremonies
- Ensure alignment with government standards, governance frameworks, and assurance processes
- Support risk identification, impact analysis, and change request assessment
- Collaborate with delivery, architecture, QA, and user research teams to ensure requirements are clearly understood and implemented correctly
- Produce documentation such as process flows, requirement catalogues, service specifications, and decision logs
Essential Skills \& Experience
- BPSS eligibility is essential
- Strong experience as a Business Analyst on
UK Central Government or wider public sector projects
- Demonstrable experience leading structured
requirements gathering
phases
- Strong capability in defining
NFRs
, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- Hands-on experience with
as-is / to-be business process mapping
- Solid understanding of
Agile delivery
frameworks and backlog management
- Experience using
JIRA
(or similar tools) to manage requirements and workflows
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including Product, Development, Architecture, and QA
- Strong analytical mindset and the ability to translate complex problems into clear, actionable solutions
