Job Description

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location:

Medford, Massachusetts

Type:

Full-time

A fast-growing advanced manufacturing business is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to help design and build key subsystems for next-generation production equipment.

This is a great fit for someone who enjoys building real machines, taking ideas from concept through to working hardware, and solving practical engineering challenges in a fast-paced environment.

The Role

You will play a hands-on role in the development of industrial machinery, working across concept design, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and scale-up. The position will suit an engineer with strong mechanical design experience in industrial equipment, automation, robotics, or manufacturing machinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop industrial machinery and sub-system architectures from concept through prototype and scale-up
  • Design and work with precision web handling and fluid transport systems
  • Integrate motors, sensors, optical components, and controls alongside electrical and software teams
  • Rapidly prototype, test, troubleshoot, and refine designs
  • Produce CAD models, technical drawings, BOMs, and assembly/work instructions
  • Source parts and work with suppliers to improve cost, lead time, and manufacturability
  • Support machine build, debugging, and deployment activities

What We’re Looking For

  • 5\+ years of mechanical design experience within industrial robotics and/or manufacturing machinery
  • Direct experience with web handling / roll-to-roll systems, including tension control, rollers, tracking, and transport
  • Experience with fluid handling systems such as pumps, tubing, manifolds, filtration, and dispensing
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or a similar CAD package
  • Experience working with vendors and sourcing components for manufacturability and cost efficiency
  • Hands-on experience building and debugging prototype systems

Ideal Profile

  • Builder mindset with a passion for turning ideas into working machines
  • Practical problem solver who can balance engineering rigor with speed and iteration
  • Comfortable working closely with production and assembly teams in a hands-on environment
