The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is currently seeking applications for three License Support Specialists to initialize and conduct examinations of applicants applying for ABC licenses. This position is assigned to the Bureau of Law Enforcement’s License Records Management section.

Areas of Responsibility

Duties include researching, imaging, indexing licensee and regional data, entering data into automated systems while analyzing and correcting data in the bureau’s database systems. The position will work with regional offices and personnel to ensure that retail applications are researched, taxes and fees processed and licensee criminal records and files are properly maintained. This position will interact with bureau management, supervisors, applicants, corporate officials, attorneys and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications

  • The selected candidate should have comprehensive knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, regulations and agency policies relative to corporations, partnerships and ABC licensing.
  • Knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Office suites, automated databases, proper use of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, composition, fundamental math including basic statistics are essential.
  • Experience performing data entry, preparing reports, presenting the contents verbally and in writing is needed along with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Applicants must have the ability to work independently, maintain a high level of confidentiality, handle stressful situations while maintaining between 60 to 80 retail applications at one time, compile and analyze pertinent information and be able to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information to arrive at logical conclusions.
  • The ability to multi-task, utilize time management skills and organization is a must.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills are paramount.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Include proficiency in Spanish and English, the ability to correspond with several different levels of the general public in both written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to follow instructions, both verbally and in writing; knowledge of related enforcement investigative programs, policies and procedures; skill in using advanced personal computer applications such as complex spreadsheets, database packages, statistical packages, office automation software, the Internet, and other software products required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • The ability to correspond with several different levels of the general public in both written and verbal communication is important
  • Applicant must be able to follow instructions, both verbally and in writing.
