The
Director Global Engineering
leads a multi-discipline engineering team responsible for executing New Product Development \& Introduction (NPDI), VAVE, advanced technology, and sustaining programs within Vertiv’s Power Solutions \& Distribution business. The leader oversees mechanical, electrical system, electronic, firmware, and magnetic engineering disciplines — driving on-time program delivery to cost, quality, and performance targets.
The role carries accountability for shaping technology strategy in partnership with Product Management, building and protecting a strong intellectual property position, and growing global engineering hubs into fully integrated, product-owning teams. Operating in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, this leader collaborates closely with Product Management, Procurement, Quality, Operations, PMO, and Service to deliver power distribution and switching solutions for critical infrastructure applications. Reports to the VP of Power Solutions and Distribution.
Business Unit Summary
The Power Solutions \& Distribution Product Line within the Power Management Business Unit is responsible for managing the global portfolio of product and distribution offerings to best serve the customers in the critical infrastructure market. Key activities include launching new products and services, managing the existing portfolio of products and services, and executing end of production and service. The team operates in a global and cross-functional environment and has frequent interactions with customers, sales, engineering, marketing, and operations.
Responsibilities
- Engineering Leadership \& Execution
+ Own the engineering execution of new product development and introduction (NPDI) programs from concept through production release, ensuring on-time delivery to cost, quality, and performance targets
+ Drive cross-discipline trade-off decisions and technical problem resolution across complex power systems
+ Champion continuous improvement initiatives, best practices, and DMAIC methodologies, including Pugh analysis, Design of Experiment, design and application FMEA, process capability study and root cause analysis
+ Manage engineering budgets, resource allocation, and capacity planning to support development programs
- Strategy \& Innovation
+ Partner with product management to inform technology roadmaps and influence product strategy based on engineering capabilities, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape
+ Identify and drive investment in engineering tools, methods, and technologies that improve development efficiency, product quality, and time-to-market
+ Build and maintain a strong intellectual property position through disciplined innovation practices
- Talent \& Organization Development
+ Attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent across all disciplines and geographies
+ Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
+ Build organizational processes, governance, and cultural connection required to operate engineering hubs as an integrated global engineering team
- Cross-Functional Partnership
+ Collaborate with operations, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing engineering to ensure seamless design-to-production transitions
+ Partner with product management and sales to support customer technical engagements as needed
+ Interface with regulatory and certification bodies to ensure product compliance across global markets
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical degree; Electrical Engineering is preferred.
- 10\+ years technical leadership experience in the industrial domain with increasing managerial responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex hardware development programs through full lifecycle (concept to production)
- Proven experience managing multi-million-dollar operating budgets and capital planning for engineering organizations.
- Experience managing large, multi‑disciplinary engineering organizations through functional leaders.
- Ability to quickly develop cross-functional and cross-regional relationships to achieve business objectives.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., fabrication, machining, casting, electronics, or similar)
- Process and results are oriented with proven ability to accomplish goals.
- Experience working with international teams in China and India is preferred.
- Excellent communications skills – written \& verbal.
Travel Requirements
This position requires up to 20% domestic and international travel.
