Position: General Accountant III
Reports To: Controller
Department: D01 – Accounting
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time, Regular
Job Summary:
The General Accountant [I/II/III] plays a vital role in supporting the financial integrity and operational success of S.C. Swiderski’s construction, development, property management, and maintenance divisions. This position is responsible for general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting support, compliance with GAAP, and maintaining strong internal controls within a project-based and asset-intensive environment.
The General Accountant collaborates closely with the Controller, Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and cross-functional operational teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
This 3-level role progresses in independence, analytical depth, and organizational impact as the employee advances.
Job Duties \& Responsibilities:
Level III, Lead Staff Accountant
- The General Accountant – Level III has reached a level of mastery allowing them to function as a departmental resource in general ledger accounting and financial reporting. This level focuses on reconciling and closing periods and assembling summary data and reports for Sr accounting management. They provide advanced technical expertise, analytical oversight, and mentorship within the General Accountant team.
- Lead assigned portions of month-end and year-end close processes.
- Oversee reconciliations of critical accounts (cash, debt, equity, CIP, intercompany).
- Prepare monthly financial reporting schedules and variance analyses.
- Support quarterly forecast processes.
- Assist in development and refinement of accounting policies and SOPs.
- Lead internal control testing and compliance initiatives.
- Support strategic financial analysis in partnership with the Controller.
- Serve as ERP subject-matter resource for assigned modules within Sage Intacct.
- Mentor and train Level I and II Accountants.
- Assist with audit coordination and external financial reporting requirements.
- Contribute to system integration or automation initiatives.
- Represent Accounting in cross-departmental process improvement discussions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Utilizes additional skills and experience to augment and support the Accounting and Finance Teams (Project management, Leadership, Data Analytics (Power BI or Tableau), AIA billing, retainage, and progress billing, KPI Dashboards \& Balanced Scorecards, or other disciplines beneficial to Accounting and Finance at SCS.).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Level III:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead month-end close and prepare financial statements.
- Proficiency in Sage Intacct or comparable financial accounting system.
- Strong analytical, modeling, and data interpretation skills.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop accounting staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience supporting audits, regulatory reviews, and financial system enhancements preferred.
- Additional skills and experience to augment and support the Accounting and Finance Teams. Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with extended hours as needed during month-end close, forecast cycles, and audits. Occasional travel may be required.
Work Environment:
Professional office setting at corporate headquarters with frequent interaction across Construction, Development, Procurement, and Property Management teams.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work. Clear speech and hearing to facilitate effective communication.
