£35,000 - £45,000 depending on experience (plus excellent benefits*) to ideally start ASAP

Demand for our products and services continues to grow across the Defence sector, and we are seeking a motivated, curious, and technically minded Data Engineer to support this growth across the UK and international market.

In this role, you will help build and maintain the data pipelines, platforms, and services that underpin Cervus’ analytics capabilities. Working closely with experienced engineers, analysts, and delivery teams, you will contribute to customer focused, scalable, and innovative data solutions that support defence organisations in making better decisions.

As our Data Engineer, you will:

  • Assist in developing and maintaining reliable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes that support experimentation, analytics, and data driven decision making.
  • Support the integration of new data sources, helping to ensure data is accurate, well‑structured, and available to internal teams and our direct customers.
  • Contribute to the development of data models, documentation, and data warehouse management ensuring data is understood, used correctly and maintained
  • Participate in troubleshooting, user training, technical discussions and demonstrations, helping represent Cervus and learning from partners across the defence data ecosystem.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, analytics, and delivery teams to ensure alignment between data processing, software systems, and customer requirements.
  • Assist in improving data quality, automation, and monitoring, helping iterate and enhance Cervus’ data platforms.
  • Support with data analytics, data visualisation and ad-hoc investigations, to support our customers and partners better understand their data and the quality of their data.

We expect you to have:

·      Experience of working with large data sets for supporting experimentation, training or analytics.

·      Foundational experience or education in data engineering, computer science, data analytics, software engineering, or a related technical field.

·      Familiarity with data pipelines and data processing tools (e.g., SQL, Python, cloud technologies, or ETL tools) and a willingness to learn more.

·      Excellent IT proficiency and enthusiasm for learning new technologies, tools, and methods.

·      Ability to understand customer challenges and contribute to practical data solutions using Cervus’ analytics products and services.

·      Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).

·      A sense of humour and a positive, collaborative mindset, with a willingness to be adaptable.to changing needs

·      Experience with data visualisation tools such as Apache Superset, Jupytr, Power BI or Tableau

We’d love it if you also have:

·      Exposure to cloud platforms, , simulation environments, or defence systems.

·      Experience of optimising systems for performance, scalability and reliability

·      Basic experience with project or task management methodologies.

·      A UK driving licence.

Working location:

This role will primarily be based at either our Bristol or Westbury offices and operates through a flexible hybrid working model, including the option for regular home working.

The Data Engineer should expect routine travel to UK training areas (such as Salisbury Plain, Otterburn, Sennybridge, and STANTA) to support integration activities, exercise planning, and on‑site coordination with training data teams. Additional travel to MOD sites, prime‑contractor facilities, and occasional coalition training centres may also be required in line with programme needs.
