Senior Accountant
Overview
A fast‑growing, multi‑site organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of a broad portfolio of properties. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys ownership of the monthly close process, and values collaboration with both finance and operational teams. The position is based in Chicago, IL and follows a hybrid schedule with 3 days in office each week.
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant will manage recurring accounting activities, oversee financial reporting for assigned entities, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial data. This individual will work closely with leadership to support decision‑making and maintain strong accounting controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting packages for assigned portfolios
- Maintain and analyze general ledger activity to support accurate and timely financial reporting
- Review balance sheet and income statement accounts, investigate variances, and record adjusting entries as needed
- Reconcile bank accounts regularly and resolve outstanding items promptly
- Monitor recurring payments such as debt service, interest, escrow activity, and tax‑related obligations
- Calculate and record accruals with a high degree of accuracy
- Maintain amortization schedules and ensure proper recording of related entries
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations for assigned entities
- Process and reconcile intercompany transactions on a monthly basis
- Prepare monthly management fee calculations and record related charges
- Oversee accounts payable activity, including processing, reconciliation, and issue resolution
- Assist with cash flow tracking, forecasting, and annual budgeting processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2\+ years of accounting experience
- Experience within property management, real estate, or public accounting a plus
- CPA or progress toward certification is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
