Century 3 is a multi-discipline engineering and industrial construction firm serving heavy industrial, chemical, and advanced manufacturing clients.

Projects primarily involve brownfield facility expansions and system upgrades, with select greenfield capital work. Engineers operate in a collaborative environment with high visibility across mechanical, process, electrical, and construction disciplines.

This role leads mechanical system design within integrated industrial projects.

The Opportunity

Century 3 is seeking a

Mechanical Discipline Lead

to oversee mechanical and building utility system design across industrial projects.

Although sometimes referenced as building mechanical design, this position supports complex industrial utility systems within manufacturing and process environments — not traditional commercial-only HVAC work.

The ideal candidate brings technical depth, leadership experience, and strong cross-discipline coordination skills.

Project Environment

• Heavy industrial and specialty chemical facilities
• Brownfield expansions and infrastructure upgrades
• Multi-discipline collaboration across engineering teams
• Direct coordination with clients, vendors, and construction teams
• Active involvement in field support and system commissioning

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design for industrial utility systems including:
• Chilled water systems
• Cooling tower systems
• Heating water systems
• Steam and condensate systems
• Compressed air
• Natural gas
• Water systems
• Perform mechanical calculations including:
• HVAC load calculations
• Pressure drop calculations
• System sizing and performance validation
• Coordinate design efforts across mechanical/process and other engineering disciplines
• Direct workflow for engineers, designers, and drafters
• Provide technical oversight and quality control for mechanical deliverables
• Manage scope, schedule, and risk for assigned projects
• Support procurement through equipment specification and technical review
• Participate in construction phase services including:
• Field verification
• Site observations
• RFI responses
• Submittal reviews
• Interface directly with clients, vendors, and contractors

Required Qualifications

• BSME or equivalent engineering degree
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Experience leading mechanical design in an engineering consulting environment
• Experience designing industrial utility systems
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit
• Experience coordinating integrated design using tools such as NavisWorks
• Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems in heavy industrial environments
• Ability to travel periodically and perform site visits
• Comfortable working in plant environments including elevated platforms and field conditions

Ideal Background

• Experience within A/E consulting firms supporting industrial or chemical clients
• Background in brownfield plant modifications
• Demonstrated leadership of project design teams
• Strong ownership mindset with ability to manage technical deliverables independently

Large commercial HVAC experience alone is not sufficient — this role requires industrial utility system experience within complex manufacturing environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Ability to read and understand designs and schematics
