Job Description

Job Summary

We have a vacancy within our established and supportive team of SLTs and SLTAs who work solo and jointly with other children's community services such as OT, Physio, Complex Needs and the Specialist Assessment Service (SAS - for autism diagnosis). We welcome applications from experienced Band 4 SLTAs and those who have experience working with children with communication needs.

As a Band 4 SLTA you will be seeing children between 0-18 years, working jointly with SLTs in groups and independently, with support from experienced colleagues. Work is undertaken in educational settings, clinics and family homes as appropriate for individual children.

We are looking for SLTAs who are ready to build on their skills and knowledge through clinical opportunities and participation in house CPD opportunities.

Main Duties, Tasks \& Skills Required

As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant you will be required to support children with speech, language and communication needs, as well as coach parents and staff to support their needs. You will be working collaboratively with our supportive, experienced team and independently, carrying out programmes set by SLTs.

Clinical work is undertaken in educational settings, clinics and family homes as appropriate for individual children.

  • Be able to work within Trust policies
  • Keep accurate and up to date case notes
  • Have an ability to cope with flexible working patterns and adapt to change, capacity and demand
  • Have excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Have high organisation and time management skills

Qualifications

Essential

  • Sound basic education to GCSE level or equivalent (including A -- C grade in English \& Maths)
  • Evidence of recent education/ personal development.
  • Professional development qualification e.g. A level/NVQ 3/ BTEC or equivalent in appropriate area (e.g. NVQ 2 or similar vocational qualification plus Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children.

Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive experience working in an area relevant to Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience in preparing and delivering training / education sessions
  • Aware of rules relating to confidentiality and data protection and shares information within these constraints
  • Demonstrates knowledge about children's communication difficulties
  • Understanding of SEND Code of Practice
  • Able to identify areas for own personal and professional development and take steps to meet those needs
