Job Description

Craft:

Data, Analytics \& Strategy

Job Description:

We’re looking for a motivated and curious Data Platform Engineer to join our Data Foundations team and help build, operate, and evolve the internal data platforms that power analytics, data science, and emerging AI workflows across King.

With over 65 petabytes of data and 130\+ billion events generated every day, data is at the heart of King’s business. The Game Platform Data organisation, distributed across Barcelona, London, and Stockholm, is responsible for ingesting, processing, and exposing this data in a way that is reliable, scalable, and usable.

You will be part of the Data Foundations team, which owns and operates the shared data platforms and services used by hundreds of data practitioners across the company. Our mission is to enable teams to work efficiently, safely, and at scale through well-designed, reliable, and easy-to-use data platforms supporting data engineering, analytics, and data science workflows.

This role is ideal for someone with a couple of years of experience who wants to grow into a well-rounded Data Platform Engineer, learning from a multidisciplinary team spanning data engineering, software engineering, business intelligence, and data science.

Your Role Within Our Kingdom

As a Data Platform Engineer, you will contribute to the day-to-day operation and evolution of our data platforms, while developing your skills across a broad technical landscape.

You will:

  • Help operate, monitor, and maintain shared data platforms and services, ensuring they are reliable and performing well for users across data engineering, analytics, and data science workflows.
  • Contribute to the operation and administration of third-party platforms, including configuration, access management, and upgrades, while extending them with integrations and tooling to meet internal needs.
  • Contribute to platform lifecycle activities, including upgrades, dependency management, and improvements to stability, security, and scalability.
  • Build and improve automation, tooling, and services in Python to support platform operations, user workflows, and emerging use cases.
  • Assist in integrating internal and external systems, enabling seamless data, metadata, and workflow connectivity across platforms.
  • Work with more experienced engineers to design and implement scalable and maintainable solutions, learning best practices along the way.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and data engineers to understand their needs and help improve the platforms they rely on.
  • Support the development of reusable components, libraries, and patterns that improve consistency, discoverability, and developer experience across shared platforms.
  • Participate in incident response, debugging, and operational support, helping diagnose and resolve issues in production systems.
  • Contribute to documentation, code reviews, and knowledge sharing, building your skills while supporting a strong engineering culture.

Skills to Create Thrills

  • Some professional experience (\~2\+ years) in a relevant field (eg platform engineering, software engineering, data engineering etc) .
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (eg. GCP, AWS, or Azure).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and basic DevOps practices.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform, Crossplane).
  • Experience supporting or operating production systems.
  • Good understanding of containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Interest in data platforms, data systems, and how data is used across organisations.
  • Strong willingness to learn from others and develop new skills across different domains.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative, customer focused mindset.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience working with data tools or platforms (e.g. orchestration tools, BI platforms, notebook environments, or data warehouses).
  • Good working knowledge of Python, including writing clean, maintainable code.
  • Familiarity with SQL and data modelling concepts.
  • Interest in improving developer experience and internal tooling.
  • Exposure to metadata management, data discovery, or data governance concepts.
  • Understanding of Data Science and Analytics workflows and tooling
  • Understanding of Data Engineering workflows and tooling

Why This Role Is Different

This is not a narrow engineering role focused on a single system or technology.

You will work across a range of data platforms and tools, gaining exposure to how data systems are designed, operated, and improved at scale, while learning from a diverse team of experienced engineers and data practitioners.

Over time, you will grow into a key contributor to the platforms that enable data work across King.
