Z-Alpha Therapeutics is a pharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery and development of

radiotherapeutics targeting key biological pathways for solid tumors. The company has a revolutionary technology platform in the next generation of alpha particle therapy with the potential to be a more targeted therapy, increasing efficacy and limiting toxicity compared to competitors in the radiotherapeutics space. The company has a world-class team of scientists with decades of experience and foundational intellectual property that enables the potential to bring multiple drug candidates into the clinic.

Position Summary

The Scientist I – Senior Scientist, Radiochemistry will contribute to the advancement of Z-Alpha Therapeutics’ discovery and preclinical pipeline through development of radiochemistry methods, synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, and analytical evaluation of radiolabeled compounds, particularly Astatine-211 for targeted radiopharmaceutical applications. This role involves the radiolabeling, purification, and characterization of peptides, small molecules, and biologics using diagnostic and therapeutic radioisotopes, with a primary emphasis on alpha-emitting isotopes for targeted alpha therapy (TAT).

Key Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Develop and optimize radiolabeling methods for peptides, small molecules, antibodies, and other targeting vectors
  • Perform routine radiosynthesis, purification, and formulation of radiolabeled compounds for in vitro and in vivo studies.
  • Design and execute novel labeling strategies and conjugation chemistries for alpha-emitting radionuclides.
  • Develop and execute radioanalytical methods to characterize radiolabeled compounds using techniques including:
  • radio-HPLC
  • radio-TLC
  • gamma counting
  • metabolite and stability analyses
  • Present research findings and project updates in internal team meetings and scientific reviews.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and interpretations in electronic laboratory notebooks, reports, and technical presentations.
  • Maintain radiation safety compliance and follow proper handling procedures for radioactive materials.
  • Aid in the safe transportation of radioactive materials between local labs and collaborators under strict DOT regulations

Education and Experience

Scientist I

  • Ph.D. in radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, chemistry, or related discipline
  • OR
  • M.S. with 2–4 years of relevant radiochemistry experience
  • Hands-on experience in radiochemical synthesis and purification

Scientist II / Senior Scientist

  • Ph.D. with 3–8\+ years of relevant experience in radiochemistry or radiopharmaceutical development
  • Demonstrated experience developing radiolabeling methods and radioanalytical assays

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with radiohalogens, particularly radioiodine, Fluorine-18 and/or Astatine-211
  • Experience in radiopharmaceutical discovery or translational research environments
  • Experience working in industry radiopharmaceutical environment where strict NRC safety standards are upheld. Experience in conducting and documenting safety surveys is a plus.

Required Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrated expertise in radiochemical synthesis, purification, and analytical characterization
  • Experience operating radio-HPLC, radio-TLC, gamma counters, HPGe and related radioanalytical instrumentation
  • Knowledge of radiation safety practices and regulatory compliance in radiochemistry laboratories

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with targeted alpha therapy (TAT) development
  • Ability to troubleshoot radiochemical synthesis and analytical methods
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple experiments and timelines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional research environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
