About The Role
The IT project manager supports NYSTEC’s IT Project Management Office (PMO) by leading multiple concurrent initiatives while strengthening governance, prioritization, and capacity awareness across the IT project portfolio. This role extends beyond individual project delivery and plays a critical role in portfolio planning, demand management, and leadership decision-making within NYSTEC’s Strategy-to-Execution (S2E) framework.
This position partners closely with project sponsors, IT leadership, internal services, service delivery teams, and PMO leadership to ensure initiatives are strategically aligned, appropriately prioritized, and executed with discipline, transparency, and measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple IT projects simultaneously across varying sizes, complexity, and lifecycle phases.
- Develop and maintain integrated project plans including scope, schedule, budget, risks, issues, and dependencies.
- Ensure alignment to approved priorities, timelines, and delivery expectations.
- Drive accountability for project outcomes and benefits realization.
- Support PMO intake, prioritization, and portfolio planning processes.
- Provide data-driven inputs for capacity planning, demand forecasting, and resource utilization.
- Identify capacity constraints, competing priorities, and cross-project impacts; escalate with actionable recommendations.
- Support governance board preparation and adherence to PMO standards.
- Produce clear, concise, and executive-ready reporting (status, risks, dependencies, financials, and capacity impacts).
- Ensure consistent use of PMO methodologies, templates, and tools across projects.
- Partner with sponsors and stakeholders to define objectives, scope, success criteria, budget, and timelines.
- Facilitate project meetings, working sessions, and governance forums.
- Communicate proactively, ensuring visibility into risks, decisions, trade-offs, and impacts.
- Identify and manage cross-project risks, dependencies, and resource contention.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of PMO processes, tools, and reporting practices.
- Promote standardization and maturity of delivery practices across IT initiatives.
About You
Required Qualifications
- Project Management (PMP) Certification required, or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
- Complete knowledge and full understanding of area of specialization, principles and practices within a professional discipline.
- Ability to work on complex problems where analysis of information requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent initiatives in a complex environment.
- Experience contributing to prioritization, planning, or capacity management activities.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Understands NYSTEC’s mission, brand mindsets, and core values and can put the behaviors into practice.
Education And Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in information technology, business administration, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience managing IT or technology-enabled projects.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience will be considered.
