About the Role:

The Power BI Analyst operates within the framework established by the Lead - building, maintaining, and iterating on reports and dashboards across operational, pipeline, and compliance use cases. The role is primarily execution-focused, with increasing ownership expected as the analyst develops platform and domain familiarity. Strong DAX and report design skills are required; architectural decision-making is not expected at this level.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

REPORT DEVELOPMENT

• Build Power BI reports and dashboards from established shared datasets and semantic models
• Write DAX measures following team standards; escalate to Lead for complex patterns
• Apply approved templates, naming conventions, and design standards to all outputs
• Iterate on reports based on stakeholder feedback through structured review cycles

DATA PREPARATION

• Build and maintain Power Query transformations from designated data sources
• Perform data validation to ensure report outputs align with source system values
• Identify and document data quality issues; escalate for resolution
• Support refresh schedule management and troubleshoot failures

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

• Maintain and update existing reports as business requirements or data sources change
• Respond to ad hoc reporting requests within the defined intake process
• Investigate and resolve report accuracy questions raised by business users
• Produce and distribute scheduled report packages where required
• Support customer environment teams on PowerBI related maintenance activities

DOCUMENTATION \& QUALITY

• Document report logic, measure definitions, and data sources per team standards
• Submit completed reports for Lead review before publishing
• Support UAT with business stakeholders on new reports
• Flag deviations from standards or data anomalies proactively

REQUIRED SKILLS

Technical

• Proficient Power BI Desktop - report and visual design, filters, bookmarks, drill-through
• Solid DAX - calculated columns, standard measures, basic time intelligence
• Power Query / M - data shaping, merging, and basic transformation logic
• SQL fundamentals - able to query and validate source data independently
• Power BI Service - publishing, workspace navigation, scheduled refresh basics

Functional

• Ability to interpret business requirements and translate into a report design
• Attention to detail - catches calculation errors, visual inconsistencies, label issues
• Mortgage/lending familiarity preferred; willingness to learn domain required
• Works effectively within defined standards and escalates when uncertain
• Responsive to feedback and able to iterate quickly through review cycles

COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS BY STAKEHOLDER

IT / Engineering

Data access questions, source system clarifications, defect reporting

• Communicate data questions precisely - table names, field behavior, expected vs. actual values
• Escalate to Lead before raising architectural or model change requests with IT

Internal Business / Operations

Requirements clarification, UAT walkthroughs, report delivery, issue triage

• Ask clarifying questions to fully understand the requirement before building
• Communicate report logic clearly to non-technical users during review
• Set accurate expectations on timelines; escalate scope changes to the Lead

Power BI Lead

Daily collaboration, work review, escalation of technical blockers

• Provide clear status updates on assigned work; flag blockers early
• Document questions and design decisions for Lead review - don't assume
• Accept and apply feedback constructively; close review loops promptly
