Job Description
We are hiring a Transmission Interconnection Engineer to bring generator interconnection experience to WireWeather. If you've worked system impact, cluster, or affected-system studies at a utility, RTO/ISO, or consulting firm, we want that experience shaping our product. This is a hands-on engineering role. You will own the planning side of the product, and provide expertise on what studies we can run, what assumptions are defensible, what reports we produce, and how our outputs hold up to scrutiny from a senior planner or interconnection engineer. You will also be a contributor on our software development team. We are especially interested in engineers currently working interconnection studies at utilities and RTO/ISOs or transmission-owning organizations, who want a hand in shaping how their industry approaches DLR and queue studies rather than just working within it.
About Pitch Aeronautics Inc.
Pitch Aeronautics (www.pitchaero.com) is a rapidly growing startup creating game-changing solutions for the utility industry. Pitch has developed a drone to install our line sensor, bird diverters, and other equipment on power lines. Our drone-deployable line sensors wirelessly transmit environmental and line characteristics to an online secure API to help utilities push more power through existing lines, prevent wildfires, and improve grid reliability. At Pitch we’ve fostered a collaborative, fun, “get-stuff-done” working environment. We believe in moving fast and creating products and prototypes rapidly. If you’re looking for a place where you can make a difference on day one, be empowered to achieve, and love working in small teams, we want to meet you!
Description
Responsibilities
--------------------
- Support non-curtailment and generator interconnection capacity studies from a planning perspective: case selection, base-case validation, contingency screening, rating application, and report production.
- Weigh in on study assumptions like what is defensible in an SIS, facilities study, or affected-system study, and what a queue participant or transmission owner is likely to push back on.
- Advise our engineering team on how DLR, AAR, CLR, and SLR-bound capacity should be modeled in interconnection studies
- Engage with RTO/ISO and utility planning counterparts including people you may already know in the field to sanity-check our approach before it reaches production.
- Review study reports and results for physical plausibility and presentation quality.
- Help prioritize which standards and processes such as NERC TPL-001, FERC Order 2023 queue reform, LGIA milestones matter most for our product roadmap.
Minimum Qualifications
--------------------------
- 3–6 years in transmission planning or interconnection studies at a transmission-owning utility, RTO/ISO, or consulting firm.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Direct exposure to system impact, facilities, cluster, affected-system, or ERIS/NRIS deliverability studies.
- Comfort with AC and DC power flow, PTDF/LODF sensitivity, and ATC/AFC concepts.
- Comfortable reviewing and interpreting PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSLF, or similar base cases and study outputs.
- Strong written and verbal communication. You can explain a study result to both an engineer and a non-technical stakeholder.
- Desired QualificationsExposure to FERC Order 2023 cluster study reform or similar queue-reform processes.
- Familiarity with IEEE 738 thermal rating calculations, FERC Order 881 / AAR adoption, or an active DLR program at your utility.
- Experience with PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA, PROMOD, or GridView.
- WECC or MISO interconnection process experience.
- Demonstrated software development experience.
