Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to develop and support complex eCommerce integrations involving Shopify, product information management (PIM), order management systems (OMS), and payment platforms. This is a hands-on engineering and technical consulting role that requires someone who can evaluate client requirements, recommend architectural approaches, design integration solutions, and translate them into actionable development tasks. The position supports multiple eCommerce clients and requires strong independent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Ruby on Rails and Node.js applications that integrate Shopify with PIM, OMS, payment providers, and other eCommerce systems.
• Develop asynchronous processing and event-driven integrations using background jobs, message queues, APIs, and webhooks to synchronize data between platforms.
• Consult directly with clients to evaluate technical requirements, recommend solutions, explain architectural tradeoffs, and estimate implementation effort.
• Translate client requirements into architecture diagrams, technical documentation, and Jira tickets; coordinate development activities while contributing hands-on code.
• Troubleshoot integration failures, data synchronization issues, and distributed-system problems while improving scalability and reliability across multiple client environments.

Required Experience

• 5\+ years of professional development experience with Ruby on Rails and Node.js, including recent hands-on Ruby on Rails development.
• Strong Shopify experience involving API integrations, custom applications, extensions, functions, or Shopify Plus implementations.
• Hands-on experience integrating multiple eCommerce systems, including PIM, OMS, inventory management, and payment platforms.
• Experience designing and developing asynchronous processing workflows using Sidekiq, Resque, or comparable background job frameworks, as well as message queues and event-driven architectures.
• Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate integration requirements, design solutions, advise clients on technical options, and translate architectural decisions into executable development tasks.
• Experience with REST and/or GraphQL APIs, relational databases, and troubleshooting complex data synchronization workflows.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and French, with the ability to explain technical solutions to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with AWS and messaging technologies such as SQS/SNS, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
• Familiarity with PHP and additional eCommerce platforms such as Magento, BigCommerce, or WooCommerce.
• Experience with Docker, cloud infrastructure, microservices, and multi-tenant applications.
