The Research Engineer supports the design, modeling, and experimental validation of advanced engineering systems for next-generation electronics applications in data center, semiconductor test, and aerospace/defense markets. The role combines system modeling, data-driven engineering, and product development to accelerate design cycles and improve system-level performance prediction.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support design and development of advanced engineering systems, including fluid-based architectures and exchanger-based designs
- Develop and apply fluid system modeling tools (steady-state and transient) for system-level performance prediction — pressure drop, transfer rates, fluid distribution
- Apply machine learning and data-driven methods to support modeling and design
- Support data center systems modeling at the rack and component level
- Conduct DOE and experimental testing, including instrumentation, data acquisition, and model validation
- Create and maintain CAD models and engineering
- Develop computational tools and simulation frameworks (Python, MATLAB) to support engineering decisions and research
- Support prototype development and testbed construction
- Collaborate with senior engineers to evaluate new technologies, improve efficiency, and identify design tradeoffs
- Contribute to technical documentation, reports, and presentations
Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Coursework/focus in fluid dynamics or advanced systems required
- Laboratory experience required; graduate research in fluid sciences or related technologies strongly preferred
Technical Skills
- Systems: two-phase processes, electronics applications, HVAC/refrigeration, exchanger design, phase-change transfer
- Modeling: ANSYS or similar CFD tools
- Programming: Python and/or MATLAB preferred
- Experimental methods: DOE, instrumentation, DAQ, validation
