Job Description
Position Summary
Wilson Audio Specialties is seeking an exceptionally motivated Acoustic \& Electrical Engineer
to join our Research \& Development team. This critical role focuses on the design and optimization of high-performance loudspeaker crossover networks while contributing broadly to new product development, driver evaluation, proprietary component engineering, and manufacturing support.
You will play a key role in developing the world’s finest high-performance, loudspeakers, ensuring seamless driver integration, time coherence, and superior frequency response through advanced modeling and simulation. Working collaboratively with engineering and manufacturing teams, you will develop innovative technologies, refine existing products, and ensure seamless transition from concept to production. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with a genuine passion for audio, exceptional attention to detail, and a growth-oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Loudspeaker Crossover Design
- Design, model, and optimize passive crossover networks (2-way, 3-way, and more complex topologies) using tools such as LTspice, LspCAD, FINE X-over, VituixCAD, or equivalent.
- Perform lumped-parameter modeling, impedance analysis, and acoustic simulations to achieve target Linkwitz-Riley, Butterworth, or custom filter alignments.
- Analyze and optimize crossover topologies, component interactions, impedance behavior, phase and time relationships, and frequency response to achieve superior system performance.
- Conduct comprehensive measurements (frequency response, anechoic, near-field, polar response) using systems like FuzzMeasure, Audio Precision, Klippel, CLIO, etc. to validate and refine crossovers.
- Analyze and mitigate distortion, group delay, and phase issues across the listening window.
- Create and maintain comprehensive crossover schematics, documentation, and design revisions.
Driver Research, Evaluation \& Development
- Evaluate loudspeaker drivers through rigorous objective measurements and critical listening.
- Conduct electroacoustic measurements—including frequency response, impedance, distortion, sensitivity, and time-domain analysis—using
Bruel \& Kjaer (B\&K)
and other laboratory instrumentation.
- Identify opportunities for driver improvements, modifications, and system integration.
- Collaborate with driver manufacturers during development of proprietary transducers.
- Research emerging driver technologies and materials, providing technical insight into future loudspeaker designs.
- Optimize enclosure ports and vents for each unique system design and application.
Inductor Engineering \& Manufacturing
- Participate in the design, development, and ongoing refinement of Wilson Audio’s proprietary inductor technologies.
- Help lead the development and in-house manufacturing of precision loudspeaker inductors.
- Develop manufacturing methods, quality standards, testing procedures, and documentation for inductor production.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to passive component manufacturing.
CAD \& Manufacturing Support
· Create tests and protocols for drivers, electronics, and final loudspeaker assemblies for the QA testing lab.
· Develop proficiency in SolidWorks and other CAD software used within the engineering department.
· Produce engineering models, drawings, and documentation that facilitate efficient communication between engineering and manufacturing.
· Provide engineering support to manufacturing throughout prototype and production phases.
· Collaborate closely with R\&D team to develop fixtures, processes, and documentation that improve manufacturing quality, efficiency, and repeatability.
· Work collaboratively across departments to ensure engineering intent is accurately translated into production.
Software
- Work with engineering software tools; modify and maintain custom utilities for workflow improvement, data collection, and testing (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar).
- Modify and maintain existing custom software and internal engineering utilities.
- Use Bruel and Kjaer software programs and equipment to measure and test panel resonances, material and enclosure vibrations, and create associated waterfall plots and graphs.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, Acoustical Physics, or a closely related discipline.
- Deep knowledge of electrical circuit theory, analog electronics, filter design, and electroacoustic principles.
- Proficiency in simulation software (LTspice strongly preferred).
- Hands-on experience with professional acoustic measurement systems.
- Strong understanding of enclosure design, diffraction, and room acoustics as they relate to crossover performance.
- Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Must be willing to work on-site in Provo, Utah.
Preferred
- 2-10\+ years of professional experience in loudspeaker design with a strong emphasis on crossover network modeling and development.
- Proficiency using FuzzMeasure and Bruel \& Kjaer (B\&K) systems.
- Programming/scripting experience (Python, C#, MATLAB, LabVIEW, etc.).
- Familiarity with DSP, active crossover systems, or advanced simulation techniques.
Personal Attributes
- Passion for high-fidelity audio, music reproduction, and engineering excellence.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, curious, and committed to continual learning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Growth mindset with a willingness to challenge conventional thinking while maintaining disciplined engineering practices.
· Commitment to craftsmanship, precision, and quality in every aspect of the work.
What You’ll Help Create
- At Wilson Audio, engineering is more than product development – it is the pursuit of authentic musical reproduction. Every design decision contributes to creating loudspeakers that set the benchmark for performance, craftsmanship and innovation. If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of loudspeaker performance, enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, and want to help shape the future of iconic, high performance audio products, we encourage you to apply.
