Background:

Sejong Academy is a PreK-12th grade Korean immersion charter school located in Saint Paul/Maplewood, MN with approximately 335 students. Our vision is that our students will become scholars of Korean and English, as well as socially responsible global citizens. We are an authorized International Baccalaureate World School with the Middle Years Program, and the IB Career-related Program.

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at the school on the specified days and hours. The position hours during the school year are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with hours being 7:45 am to 4:00 pm on Wednesdays. This is a year-round position that has full-time hours during the school year and part-time hours over the summer.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist all students on caseload with academic, personal, social emotional, and career counseling as needed
  • Build long-term relationships with students and their families
  • Provide individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic, social emotional, or behavior concerns
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Team, the MTSS team, and the Student Support Department to help identify students who may need targeted or intensive services
  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning student needs and supports
  • Academic Counseling:
  • Enroll students in credit recovery courses when needed and monitor student’s progress towards completion of graduation requirements
  • Provide academic advising to students in grades 9–12 regarding graduation requirements, course selection, and academic planning
  • Monitor student progress toward graduation and intervene with students at risk of not meeting requirements
  • PSEO (Postsecondary Enrollment Options) Coordination:
  • Advise students and families on PSEO eligibility requirements, application processes, and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with partner colleges and universities to support student enrollment in PSEO courses.
  • Review and approve PSEO course selections to ensure alignment with high school graduation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of PSEO enrollment, credits, and grades for transcript reporting.
  • Educate students and families about the benefits, expectations, and responsibilities of participating in PSEO.
  • Support students in transitioning between high school and college coursework environments.
  • Communicate with postsecondary institutions regarding student progress, registration, and policy updates.
  • Social Emotional Counseling:
  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development
  • Assist students in developing coping skills, resilience, self-regulation, and problem-solving strategies.
  • Identify and support students experiencing mental health concerns, stress, anxiety, grief, trauma, or peer conflict
  • Conduct risk assessments and crisis intervention for students experiencing emotional distress or safety concerns
  • Coordinate and facilitate restorative conversations, conflict resolution, and peer mediation when appropriate and in collaboration with the Dean of Students
  • Attend IEP meetings for students on caseload when needed
  • Provide group counseling as a Tier 2 intervention
  • Lead and advise classroom teachers on social emotional learning programming for the Upper School in collaboration with the Lower School Counselor and Dean of Students
  • Provide guidance to teachers to implement social emotional learning curriculum such as Second Step, Zones of Regulation, and Emily’s Hope
  • College and Career Counseling:
  • Provide guidance to students for post-secondary planning
  • Support students in exploring post-secondary pathways, including four-year universities, community colleges, trade schools, military service, and career programs
  • Coordinate and oversee the college admission process for upper school students, including application timelines, recommendation letters, transcripts, and financial aid guidance
  • Coordinate ACT testing, including test registration support, test-day logistics, and communication with students and families
  • Work with students on college readiness skills, including personal statements, resumes, scholarship applications, and FAFSA preparation
  • Serve as the school liaison for college access programs, coordinating student participation and collaboration with program staff
  • Organize college and career events, such as college fairs, information sessions, and campus visits
  • Maintain data and records related to graduation goals and post-secondary planning including college acceptances, scholarship awards, and post-secondary outcomes
  • Provide individual and classroom advising sessions focused on college planning and career exploration.

Master’s Degree in School Counseling and School Counseling License through PELSB are required. Minimum starting salary depends on educational experience.

Preferred candidates will have:

  • CACREP Accreditation
  • Knowledge of appropriate counseling theories and practices
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse populations
  • Awareness of post-secondary college and career opportunities
  • Knowledge and experience working with Synergy or other student information systems
