Job Description
As the Enterprise Architect, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between business strategy and technology execution. You will be responsible for defining the target IT/OT (Information Technology / Operational Technology) landscape, guiding digital transformation initiatives, and designing resilient, scalable architectures that address the unique challenges of the modern utility industry—such as the energy transition, smart grid enablement, regulatory compliance, and asset lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Architecture \& Roadmap Development
- Develop and maintain the Enterprise Architecture (EA) vision, strategy, and blueprints aligned with the client’s overarching business goals.
- Create and manage multi-year technology roadmaps detailing the transition from current-state to future-state architectures.
- Lead the architectural design for major digital transformation programs (e.g., IT/OT convergence, application modernization).
Utilities-Specific Domain Leadership
- Provide subject matter expertise on core utility business processes and systems, including:
- EAM:
(Enterprise Asset Management) e.g., IBM Maximo, SAP S/4HANA Asset Management
- Network \& Grid:
SCADA, GIS (Geographic Information Systems like ESRI), FSM etc.
- Architect solutions that facilitate the seamless integration of IT and OT environments while ensuring rigorous cybersecurity standards.
Governance \& Standards
- Establish and enforce architecture principles, standards, and best practices across the enterprise.
- Chair or participate in the Architecture Review Board (ARB) to evaluate and approve project architectures, ensuring alignment with the target blueprint.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, vendors, and tools to ensure the client remains at the forefront of utility innovation.
Stakeholder Engagement \& Leadership
- Act as a trusted advisor to C-level executives, business unit leaders, and technical teams, effectively translating complex technical concepts into business value.
- Collaborate closely with Solution Architects, Data Architects, Security Architects, and Engineering leads to ensure successful project delivery.
- Mentor and guide junior architects and technical staff.
Required Qualifications \& Experience
- Experience:
Minimum of 10\+ years of experience in IT, with at least 5\+ years functioning as an Enterprise or Lead Solution Architect.
- Industry Knowledge:
Minimum of 3–5\+ years of direct experience working within the
Utilities sector
(Power, Gas, or Water). Deep understanding of utility regulatory environments and market dynamics.
- Frameworks:
Practical experience utilizing standard Enterprise Architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman) and modeling languages (e.g., ArchiMate, BPMN).
- Integration \& Data:
Proven expertise in designing event-driven architectures, microservices, API gateways, and enterprise service buses (ESB). Strong understanding of utility data models (e.g., CIM - Common Information Model)
- Cloud Computing:
Strong architectural knowledge of leading cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and hybrid-cloud deployments.
- Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Desirable Skills (Bonus)
- TOGAF Certification (or equivalent).
- Cloud Solution Architect Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
- Experience with IoT (Internet of Things) architectures as applied to smart grids and remote asset monitoring.
- Knowledge of utility cybersecurity standards (e.g., NERC CIP, NIST).
Key Competencies
- Strategic Thinking:
Ability to see the "big picture" and anticipate future technology trends.
- Communication:
