Brief Description
Artificial Intelligence Engineer
- Omaha, NE (Onsite) \| Full-Time, Exempt
Build the systems. Shape the future. Drive how decisions get made.
At MCL Construction, we’re not experimenting with AI, we’re building it into how we operate, compete, and grow.
We’re looking for an
Artificial Intelligence Engineer
who doesn’t just understand AI but knows how to apply it where it matters. This is a high-impact role where you’ll design, build, and deploy intelligent systems that influence real decisions across the business from the jobsite to the boardroom.
If you’re someone who wants to
own the strategy, build the tools, and see your work used in real time
, this is your arena.
What You’ll Own
AI Strategy \& Implementation
- Build and evolve MCL’s AI roadmap, aligning tools and capabilities with real business outcomes
- Design, develop, and deploy end-to-end AI/ML solutions across departments
- Identify high-impact use cases, pilot solutions, measure results, and scale what works
- Translate business challenges into practical, scalable AI applications
AI Systems \& Tools
- Develop AI agents and tools using platforms like Azure AI Foundry, Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar
- Integrate AI into enterprise systems (Teams, SharePoint, internal platforms)
- Build and refine Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows, embeddings, and vector databases
- Create lightweight tools and applications that improve decision-making speed and accuracy
Data \& Decision Support
- Partner with Data and IT teams to connect pipelines, APIs, and data sources
- Develop forecasting models and intelligent systems that support planning and operations
- Monitor performance, track KPIs, and continuously improve model accuracy and adoption
- Ensure reliability, scalability, and long-term performance of AI solutions
Cross-Functional Impact
- Work directly with field, operations, finance, and leadership teams to understand workflows
- Identify inefficiencies and introduce AI-driven improvements
- Train users, drive adoption, and gather feedback to refine solutions
- Serve as the bridge between technical capability and real-world application
Leadership \& Influence
- Mentor interns and support internal AI capability building
- Lead internal training and elevate AI literacy across the company
- Stay ahead of emerging AI trends and bring new ideas back to the business
What It Takes
Technical Foundation
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Strong programming experience (Python, R, JavaScript, etc.)
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks and model development
- Hands-on work with LLMs, RAG, embeddings, and agent-based workflows
- Familiarity with tools like Azure AI, OpenAI, Copilot, Semantic Kernel, or similar
- Experience integrating APIs, data connectors, and enterprise systems
What Sets You Apart
- You don’t just build models, you solve problems
- You think in systems, not silos
- You can move from concept ? prototype ? production without getting stuck
- You’re comfortable working with both technical teams and business leaders
- You’re curious about how construction actually works and how to make it better
Why MCL
- Real Impact: Your work won’t sit on a shelf, you’ll see it used across the company
- Ownership: You’ll help define how AI shows up here, not just execute someone else’s roadmap
- Growth: We’re expanding, evolving, and investing in smarter ways to build
- Culture: Passionate. Thorough. Dedicated. Respectful. No shortcuts, no excuses
The Bottom Line
This isn’t a “keep the lights on” AI role.
This is for someone who wants to step in, take ownership, and
build something meaningful from the ground up
with the support, visibility, and trust to do it right.
If you’re ready to move beyond theory and
put AI to work where it actually matters
, we should talk.
