Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Senior Commodity Buyer role based in Union City, CA. The Senior Commodity Buyer will be responsible for managing end-to-end procurement activities for assigned commodities, including sourcing, negotiating, and executing purchase orders to support production and operational needs. Day-to-day responsibilities include evaluating and developing suppliers, managing supplier relationships, and monitoring supplier performance against cost, quality, and delivery targets. The role involves analyzing market trends and cost drivers, identifying sourcing risks and opportunities, and collaborating with engineering, operations, finance, and supply chain teams to align commodity strategies with business goals. The Senior Commodity Buyer will also be responsible for maintaining accurate purchasing records, ensuring compliance with company policies, and driving continuous improvement in procurement processes and supplier performance.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in Purchasing and Procurement in Fiber Optics, including negotiating contracts, managing purchase orders, and optimizing cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Experience with Supplier Evaluation and Supplier Management, including qualifying new suppliers, assessing performance, and driving corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain Management principles, including demand planning, inventory management, lead time optimization, and logistics coordination.
  • Proven experience as a commodity buyer or similar procurement role, preferably in electronics, optical components, or technology manufacturing.
  • Ability to analyze data, market trends, and cost structures to support strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and standard office applications; experience with procurement or supply chain tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with contract terms, vendor agreements, and basic legal and compliance considerations in purchasing.
