Oracle DBA Consultant

Our client, an early-stage technology startup, is seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) Consultant to support the design, development, optimization, and ongoing management of its core database environment. This role will work closely with product, engineering, architecture, and DevOps teams to ensure the database platform is secure, scalable, high-performing, and aligned with the company’s product roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Oracle database environments supporting SaaS, web, and mobile applications.
• Partner with software developers to define database architecture, schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
• Provide database expertise throughout the product development lifecycle, including planning, design, deployment, and support.
• Monitor database performance, availability, capacity, and overall health.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, performance bottlenecks, and production incidents.
• Perform database tuning, SQL/PLSQL optimization, and execution plan analysis.
• Manage backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.
• Support application releases, database deployments, and CI/CD-related activities.
• Implement database security controls, user access management, encryption, and auditing.
• Collaborate with cloud and infrastructure teams on Oracle deployments across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Develop and maintain database standards, documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
• Provide recommendations on scalability, licensing, and future-state database architecture.

Requirements

• 7\+ years of Oracle Database Administration experience.
• Strong experience with Oracle Database 12c, 19c, or later versions.
• Experience supporting databases within software product development or SaaS environments.
• Expertise in performance tuning, database optimization, backup/recovery, high availability, and security.
• Strong SQL and PL/SQL skills.
• Experience working closely with software development teams in Agile environments.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud (OCI), Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and database release management.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex database and application performance issues.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, or Exadata.
• Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) experience.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, and microservices architectures.
• Prior experience supporting startup or high-growth technology organizations.
• Oracle certifications such as OCP or OCM.
