Position Overview

The Laboratory Analyst is an entry-level role designed to support plant process control and quality assurance through laboratory analyses. This position combines foundational learning with growing technical proficiency. The analyst will learn and understand the basic operation of the laboratory, conduct routine analytical procedures under close to limited supervision, demonstrate a willingness to learn by studying instrument manuals and analytical procedures, understand all calculations associated with reported data and ensure accurate data entry. The analyst will also develop a working knowledge of calibration and maintenance procedures for laboratory instrumentation, begin to write and set up new methods and issue reports on non-routine testing, build troubleshooting skills, and apply applicable computer applications. Reliable attendance and contribution to a safe and efficient lab environment are essential.

This is a full-time, permanent, onsite role at our Houston, TX facility. Accepting new graduates.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Perform duties associated with quality assurance, special projects, method development, and non-routine analytical and administrative assignments
  • Provide analytical support for plant personnel on a day-to-day basis
  • Conduct analysis, synthesis, and experimentation on substances for purposes as product and process application, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and improvement of analytical methodologies
  • Responsible for analysis of finished products, in-process samples, raw materials and wastewater in compliance with SOP’s and HS\&E policies and procedures
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and maintenance of all laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Provide support for process improvement, process safety and analytical initiatives
  • Complete daily inspections of both safety and analytical equipment in the Laboratory and Production Units
  • Conduct non routine chemical and physical laboratory tests of solid materials, liquids and gases
  • Conduct tests both inside Laboratory and outside on plant process equipment.
  • Conduct safety meetings for department
  • Complete safety inspections of laboratory and equipment as assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • New Graduates are welcome
  • 0-2 years in chemical process industry with a background emphasis in Laboratory environment and analytical procedures
  • Bachelor of Science in science or technical related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Transportation Worker’s Identification Credentials (TWIC)
  • Knowledge of ion chromatography, wet chemistry techniques, ICP and wastewater analyses
  • Ability related to lifting and carrying testing equipment to test locations within Production Unit
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of plant personnel
  • Ability to multi-task and manage work and assignments in a matrix-type environment
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills to facilitate interactions with co-workers and plant personnel in a team-based environment
  • Good written and oral presentation skills and leadership qualities
