Hanover Retail Excess \& Surplus (E\&S) is seeking to add an Excess \& Surplus Underwriter Specialty to our dynamic team.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Hanover Retail E\&S is seeking to add an Excess and Surplus Lines (E\&S) Underwriter Specialty to its growing Team. Hanover Retail E\&S transacts business with appointed retail trading partners, and the position will be responsible for a renewal book of business consisting of mono-line commercial general liability, commercial property, package, and supported excess liability risks to determine acceptability for quoting and binding business within the underwriting authority granted by the Company. This position is a market facing role with frequent interaction with appointed retail trading partners. This position requires strong communication, negotiation, relationship development and analytical skills to transact business within the fast-paced E\&S environment. We are seeking an experienced E\&S professional with a high technical acumen; collaborative spirit and a strong Property \& Casualty underwriting skill set; basic property underwriting experience would be a plus.
This position works in a team environment and will collaborate to underwrite and service accounts for our appointed retail trading partners. Business development activities include close collaboration with other internal business units in developing agency relationships, strategies, account coordination, executing on sales and marketing activities that demonstrate and support a strong customer focus that ultimately reinforces Hanover Retail E\&S appetite and strategy.
THIS IS A FULL-TIME, EXEMPT ROLE.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
- Analyze, evaluate, accept, rate, quote and bind renewal E\&S business according to underwriting authority granted by the Company.
- Review mid-term endorsement requests and loss control reports.
- Drive production and marketing activities to achieve individual goals while maintaining underwriting integrity and overall profitability.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with appointed retail trading partner firms to generate a strong flow of quality new business opportunities, as well as execute on portfolio management objectives to manage the overall quality of the book of business handled.
- Facilitate cross-sell opportunities within The Hanover enterprise including Middle Market, Small Commercial and other specialty business units.
- Meet production and marketing goals while maintaining underwriting integrity and overall profitability.
- Exhibit thorough working knowledge of sound underwriting principles, policies, procedures, and controls.
- Keep current on issues affecting the E\&S lines of business, as well as competitors and the overall marketplace.
- Coach and mentor other team members on the team as needed, as well as support and contribute to the development of more junior underwriters and underwriting assistance.
- Provide a high level of customer service by timely response to our retail agents requests and deadlines.
- Create, drive and execute on strategies for renewal accounts (prospective book management, executing on the territorial and retail trading partner plans, etc.).
- Know The Hanover’s value proposition to best position us for success and be professionally demanding and accountable.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 2 – 5 years of commercial E\&S insurance experience required.
- 2 -5 \+ years’ experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business as well as complex accounts.
- Excellent organizational, desk management and prioritization skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be positive, self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
- Possess strong technical, analytical and quantitative skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Solution oriented team player with a strong relationship management skill set working with both internal and external stakeholders and customers.
- Must be customer focused.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
- ASLI, CPCU, ARM or other relevant professional designation preferred, but not required.
- College degree required.

The target hiring range for this role may vary based on geographic location and other factors, including merit or performance, demonstrated proficiency, skills for the role, education, travel requirements, and experience. Additional compensation may include an annual bonus (which could take the form of a general bonus, sales incentive, or short-term incentive), long-term incentive or spot recognition awards. The posted range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
