How will you make an impact in this role?

This role sits in the global Corporate Affairs \& Communications organization and provides corporate communications and public affairs counsel and service to multiple executives in the organization. Reporting to the Director, Corporate \& Financial Communications, the Manager, Corporate \& Financial Communications will provide support for our financial communications (e.g. earnings, regulatory filings, and annual meeting), external communications and thought leadership activities of the company’s CEO and CFO, and corporate-wide media relations. This position requires a strong understanding of the financial markets, disclosure requirements and the media landscape, as well as excellent writing skills, including the ability to communicate financial messages. Experience in financial services industry is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  • Quickly develop a deep understanding of American Express, its business and customers in order to identify story ideas and

translate material into comprehensive and easy-to-understand communications messages

  • Draft materials for financial news and reports, such as press releases, newsroom articles, annual report and proxy content, key messages, Q\&As, media talking points, among others
  • Support preparations for executives’ media and thought leadership engagements, including developing briefing books, talking points, Q\&As, presentations, and prepared remarks
  • Conduct research and benchmarking analyses on relevant topics, while demonstrating strong interest in the business and financial news cycle
  • Create social media content for enterprise and executive channels, develop strategic content calendars in line with platform best practices and business priorities
  • Support a proactive media relations strategy that increases visibility and enhances the company reputation; build media contacts and stay on top of the evolving media landscape
  • Serve as a quarterback for the Corporate and Financial Communications team and on cross-functional projects, including developing and managing work plans and trackers, driving coordination among teams, facilitating reviews and ensuring alignment among stakeholders
  • Partner effectively with communications colleagues and business partners across the company to help coordinate communications activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6\+ years communications/PR experience with demonstrated ability to handle all types of media and corporate communications needs.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills
  • Strong media relations with demonstrated storytelling skills and press engagement.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with a proactive approach and demonstrated project management ability
  • Strong self-starter, with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment, adhering to policies and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create connections across functions and levels
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills, with proven track record of exercising sound judgment and clear decision-making under tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of the financial industry, with a strong preference for someone with experience in the financial services industry, or communication agency supporting clients in the sector, or covering the industry at a media outlet
  • Experience developing and implementing creative PR and social media programs
  • Experience working with PR agency and vendor resources

Salary Range: $89,250\.00 to $150,250\.00 annually \+ bonus \+ benefits
