Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support a critical machine safety and equipment improvement initiative at our Fallon, Nevada facility. This hands-on engineering role will focus on evaluating existing manufacturing equipment, designing machine guarding solutions, and implementing safety improvements that reduce operational risk while ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards.
Candidates with experience in
sheet metal enclosure design, machine guarding, and industrial equipment design
are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate existing manufacturing equipment and processes for machine guarding and safety risks
- Conduct hazard assessments and identify opportunities for risk reduction
- Design practical, compliant machine guarding and safety solutions
- Create detailed engineering drawings, CAD models, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Develop sheet metal enclosure and guarding designs for industrial equipment
- Support implementation, installation, and validation of guarding solutions
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to ensure successful project execution
- Improve machine safety performance and support risk scorecard improvement initiatives
- Ensure designs comply with OSHA requirements and applicable machine guarding standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Experience with mechanical design in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Strong CAD design experience
- Experience designing sheet metal enclosures, guards, or fabricated assemblies
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and machine safety principles
- Familiarity with hazard analysis and risk assessment methodologies
- Strong problem-solving and engineering fundamentals
- Ability to work independently in an operational manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Machine guarding design experience
- Manufacturing equipment modification and improvement experience
- Experience supporting implementation of safety-related engineering projects
- Familiarity with risk mitigation and compliance initiatives
Project Deliverables
- Assess existing equipment and identify machine guarding compliance gaps
- Develop machine guarding concepts, CAD drawings, and Bills of Materials
- Support implementation of engineered solutions
- Improve machine safety risk assessment scores through successful project execution
