Job Description

AECOM Hunt is looking for the next professional Senior Superintendent for our construction project in Jacksonville, FL. The Senior Superintendent will assist in leading field operations for a large, complex commercial build, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and trade coordination are executed to the highest standard from groundbreaking through closeout.

Job duties:

  • Own site safety: enforce zero‑incident culture, lead daily JHAs/Toolbox Talks, and ensure compliance with OSHA, company policies, and site-specific plans.
  • Direct field execution: sequence and coordinate all trades, crane/rigging plans, hoisting, deliveries, lane closures, and site logistics.
  • Manage schedule: build and maintain the short-interval plan and look‑aheads; align trade partners to the critical path and recovery plans as needed.
  • Assure quality: review shop drawings and submittals for constructability; oversee inspections, mock-ups, and QC documentation to meet specifications.
  • Control progress and cost drivers: monitor productivity, material flow, and equipment utilization; flag scope gaps, changes, and delays early.
  • Lead field meetings: run daily huddles and weekly trade coordination meetings; document decisions, action items, and follow-through.
  • Interface with stakeholders: collaborate with owners, designers, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and inspectors to resolve issues quickly.
  • Oversee commissioning and turnover: coordinate MEP start-up, testing, commissioning, punch lists, and as-built documentation for a smooth handover.
  • Mentor field staff: coach General/Area Superintendents, Foremen, and Field Engineers; develop talent and promote continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance: uphold contract requirements, environmental controls, permits, and reporting obligations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS Engineering/Construction Management and 8 years of relevant construction Superintendent experience or AA/AS and 10 years of relevant experience or HSD/GED and 12 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8\+ years of progressive field leadership as a Superintendent on large commercial projects (e.g., high-rise, healthcare, life sciences, aviation, mixed-use, or mission-critical).
  • Proven success delivering complex builds with major structure/MEP scopes, dense urban logistics, or active‑campus constraints.
  • Strong command of safety management (OSHA 30 or equivalent) and field risk mitigation.
  • Proficiency with construction management tools and workflows (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid/Bluebeam, BIM-enabled coordination, look‑ahead planning).
  • Ability to interpret drawings/specs, lead trade coordination, and drive field problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a collaborative, accountability-driven style.
  • Willingness to work onsite full time; schedule flexibility for night/weekend work as required by project phases.
  • Trade background or field engineering experience.
  • First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10 or other safety credentials.

Physical Demands:

  • The following physical demands represent those typically required of individuals working in construction field roles, with or without accommodation. Construction field positions require physical stamina and mobility, including the ability to climb ladders and stairs, use personnel hoists, and move through various terrain and active construction zones. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Team members must be capable of using their hands to handle tools and materials, and perform activities such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted may be necessary on an occasional basis.

Work Environment:

  • Individuals in construction field roles work primarily on active job sites where exposure to environmental and job-related hazards is common, with or without accommodation. These environments may include proximity to heavy machinery, elevated work areas, airborne particles, varying weather conditions, and potential electrical risks. Noise levels may vary from moderate to high depending on the phase of construction. Employees may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and must remain alert to ensure safety. Additional duties may be assigned as needed based on the scope and progress of the project.
