Job Description

Our client, a growing food manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented

Purchasing Specialist

to join their team; This role is fully on-site, Monday-Friday, in the Ewing NJ area. This is a key role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys owning the full procurement lifecycle—from vendor management to cost analysis and inventory planning.

Position Overview

The Purchasing Specialist will be responsible for managing all procurement activities, ensuring the timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials while maintaining high quality and food safety standards. This role blends strategic sourcing with hands-on execution and requires strong relationship management, analytical thinking, and operational oversight.

Salary is 85,000 - 115,000\.

Benefits include health insurance, 401k, and PTO.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor inventory levels and place purchase orders based on production needs and forecasts
  • Track market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain developments to inform purchasing decisions
  • Analyze costs, manage budgets, and provide reporting to support financial planning
  • Resolve issues related to shipments, delays, or product discrepancies
  • Maintain organized documentation, including requisitions, purchase orders, and vendor records
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier performance within ERP systems and spreadsheets
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, production, and quality teams to align purchasing with business needs
  • Coordinate with quality assurance to ensure all materials meet food safety and company standards
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and competitive pricing
  • Source and vet new vendors while monitoring performance of existing suppliers
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to achieve cost savings and favorable agreements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Food Science, or a related field
  • 5\+ years of purchasing experience within food manufacturing (required)
  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards; HACCP familiarity preferred
  • Proven negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Experience with ERP systems and procurement tools
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
